The show benefits our friends over at Intonation Music Workshop and the awesome work they do with Chicago's kids!!

KINDIE LAND: New Poochamungas CD Block Party Out September 17th #giveaway #tourdates

Block Party!
Train Rolls On Productions
17 September 2013

**We're giving away 20 Kindie CDs, 10 books, 2 Blu-Ray/DVD Combos nationwide, and lots of Chicago theatre & music tickets. So check back like we vote in Chi, IL... early and often.**

COME ON DOWN TO THE FIREHOUSE FOR
AN OLD-FASHIONED, CHICAGO-STYLE 'BLOCK PARTY!' with POOCHAMUNGAS

"Poochamungas, an Americana rock-n-roll outfit from the second city, rocks a clean electric guitar and a jumpy piano on their canine-centric self-titled track from their brilliantly named kindie debut, Mud, Mommies, and Mayhem."  -- Jeff Bogle, Out With The Kids

"A great blend of blues, folk and Americana.  With lyrics that talk straight to the kids and music sophisticated enough for the whole family to enjoy, Poochamungas will get toes tapping and bodies moving," -- Dave Loftin, The Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl

Led into action by a real-life, full-time Chicago firefighter, kindie rock band Poochamungas is all set to blaze a trail on the national scene with the September 17 release of their second kids'/family CD, Block Party!

Block Party! follows hot on the heels of Poochamungas' NAPPA award winning debut album, Mud, Mommies and Mayhem, continuing the band's tradition of "musically diverse, rockin', angst-free music."  There's nothing pretentious about this group.  Block Party! cooks up a down-home, musical celebration with friends and family.  This CD is about fun and sharing good times, pure and simple.

The straightforward, uncomplicated musical charm of Block Party! harkens back to Poochamungas' firehouse origins, when John Joyce, a 17-year veteran of the Chicago Fire department, teamed up with fellow firefighter Pete Cunningham to see how far they could go with their musical talents.  The pair had always enjoyed each other's company since their days together in the Chicago Fire Academy, and their mutual love of music soon began to consume a big part of their lives.  In 2008, Poochamungas was born!

Block Party! revs up the fun-o-meter with "Around the World," a bit of rocking '50s style topped off by a driving honky tonk piano reminiscent of early Jerry Lee Lewis and Bill Haley, followed by a great action song about bike riding, "Till the Sun Goes Down."  In contrast to the driving intensity of the first two numbers, "My Favorite Summer Day (Block Party)" is a kind of hometown, Americana nostalgic reverie of neighborhood good times from the perspective of a young parent -- something of a rock 'n' roll Rockwell.  Another highlight, reflecting the band's firehouse connection, is a spiffy rhythmic ode to the fire truck, "Big Red Fire Engine/Truck."

Born out of the Old Town School of Folk Music then fledging musician John Joyce went to take some harmonica classes and ended up taking a bunch of guitar lessons. After meeting a bunch of interested musicians (Don, Alton and Pete), mastering 3 chords, writing some lyrics that amused his daughter, a father son drummer exchange and finally forming a band!
The Poochamungas went on to record Mud, Mommies and Mayhem in 2010 which won a NAPPA Award and played a bunch of gigs the next few years. They are now in the studio finishing their follow up CD titled Block Party (to be released Spring 2013). Musically diverse rockin’ angst free music is their goal at every show. The Poochamungas believe that good music should know no ages and they rock out for audiences big and small. Singing, dancing and general silliness is the rule of the day when this band comes to play!

**ChiIL Mama's also got 4 free tickets to Baby Loves Disco April & May shows at Lincoln Hall.  Click here to enter to win!**

*WIN 4 FREE TICKETS AND BRUNCH FOR 4 AT HARMONY GRILL FROM ChiIL Mama
On Saturday, 3/23 at 3:00 PM, Schubas will host Poochamungas
Inspired by a friend, John started taking harmonica lessons at the age of 30 at the Old Town school of folk music. John then moved on to bass lessons which soon switched over to guitar lessons. After 8 years of playing and taking lessons he was emboldened by his mastery of three chords and started writing songs that entertained his daughter. He showed them to some friends named Pete and Shawn who helped him further develop the music. Then a band was formed by reaching out to some Old Town disciples and an instructor, a young talented pastor and a drummer who was in the right place at the right time. After a few rehearsals, a flooded out block party gig, a few more rehearsals and a successful outdoor halloween gig they headed into the studio. A year later and a few gigs behind them they have completed the CD and it is available at cdbaby.com/poochamungas. It has also won a 2010 National Parenting Publication Award! Tickets are $8, free for kids 2 and under, and are available at www.schubas.com

    More treats...no trick.

ChiIL Mama has special pricing for David Tobocman's brand new "Escalator" CD.  Click this link to purchase the CD for just $8, which is 33 percent off of the suggested retail price!

Uplifting Escalator elevates kids' rock to new heights

ChiIL Mama had a chance to check out David Tobocman's latest kindie CD, the impressive Escalator.  This CD manages to be funny, educational, and musically compelling.   These 11 tunes will have your whole family grinning from ear to ear and jonesin' for a road trip.   Tobocman has a down home folk feel on tunes like America's Our Country and Peace Sign.   All your Little Folk and Hippy Kids will dig it.

We particularly enjoyed the creative lyrics and catchy melody on Custom Family Spaceship.   We also love The Owie Song.   Scrapes and bruises are a frequent part of any active childhood, so how cool is it that these little bumps in the road have their own super catchy song to ease the pain?!   Escalator is fast moving fun from top to bottom.   There's really not a weak link in the bunch.

Of course we especially dig that David Tobocman's a dad, and includes his daughter, Zoe, on the CD.   Here at ChiIL Mama, we've been doing a long form video series on How Creatives Parent and How Parents Create and we love to see where those two worlds collide.   Escalator is a great example of kid collaboration and influence.   Check it out!

Here are a few things folks are saying about David’s music:

“He taps into a child's mind with insight and grace” --  Jeff Bogle, OutWithTheKids.com

"Appealing and clever. Sweetly offbeat." -- Myles McDonnell, You Know, for Kids blog

"Tuneful melodies and sweet, memorable songs" -- Nick Deysher, Singin' in the bathtub blog

"Hilarious and playful, Tobocman's songwriting resounds with life truths in a way that little ears and parents will understand and enjoy" -- Meg Wilson, Muses of Megret blog

"Totally appealing" -- Stefan Shepard, Zooglobble blog

"Positively easy on the ears" -- Stephanie Mondrat, Hear It Love It Share It blog

Congrats to our Dreamtree Shakers family 4 pack ticket winner this week, Amy Jo W. and her sons, Easton and Flynn.   Your name will be on the guest list at the door.

If you haven't experienced The Dreamtree Shakers live shows yet, you should!   They are one of our favorites and a big hit with kids of all ages and adults.    They add masks, pagentry and mystery to their shows and bring the characters out into the audience, to involve the kids.   Tickets are just $6.00.   All ages welcome.

Check out ChiIL Mama's interview with The Dreamtree Shaker's right here.   We caught up with them at Schubas at baby Elvis' first concert in late March.   It's too soon to tell if he'll be a Costello, a Presley, or a unique Elvis for the new millennium.    He's still more of a velvet Elvis at this point--all soft an fuzzy.    With a band dad and a mom who works for Chirp Radio, one thing's for sure.    He'll be exposed to a lotta great music!    Lucky kid.   Bring your own lucky kids out this weekend and give them the benefit of some awesome music and more.

We've been promoting Boogie With Building Blocks for months and the time is finally here to celebrate 15 years of Building Blocks Toy Stores, and Katherine, the Chicago Mama and toy shop keeper, we all depend on for the coolest toys.
