dbl click the slideshow for full screen & other options

The Dwarves rocked The Bottom Lounge in Chicago Saturday night, headlining an excellent show with Nashville Pussy.    It was a bit of a challenge to shoot, since bodies and beers were flying front and center.    Despite the signage saying No stage diving, crowd surfing....blah, blah, blah, there were a good number of people breakin' the rules.

ChiIL Mama is giving away a copy of The Dwarves latest 2 disc combo DVD/CD set, The Dwarves are Born Again.    AND we were able to score Nashville Pussy's new release, From Hell to Texas, for our readers.   We will be adding that to the winnings, too, so somebody's walkin' away with a sweet free DVD/CD Dwarves combo AND a Nashville Pussy CD, too.   Enter through midnight Tuesday for your chance to win.    Our winner will be announced on Win A Disc Wednesday.

Entering's easy--just follow ChiIL Mama by e-mail, RSS, or Twitter.   Xtra entries for liking our FB page.    Xtra entries for every documented social media share.

We have great give aways for adults and punk kin--aka:   way underagers.    So check in with ChiIL Mama like we vote in Chi, IL...early and often for free DVDs, CDs, signed books, concert and theatre tixs.    We also have original video interviews, reviews, show stills and footage and events listings.

Weekend:   53rd Annual Air & Water Show.  Love it or hate it, this event will overrun the waterfront this weekend.    We avoided it for years, then my husband ended up interviewing some of the pilots a few years back and the kids were clamoring to check it out.    So we went and had a pretty good time.

I was still a bit creeped out by the massive display of war machinery and the whole show's basically kid enticing military propaganda.   It was good to see protestors were being given space to do their thing, and raise public awareness there, too.

I'd last gone back in the early 90's and the sweaty masses and the sight of a bunch of little kids playing all over a tank left a bad taste in my mouth.   I kept thinking of the hippy sticker....It'll be a great day when education gets all the money it wants and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy bombers.  ~Author unknown, quoted in You Said a Mouthful edited by Ronald D. Fuchs

This time around, we didn't see the "tank playground" and my husband was in awe of the planes.   We've debated this for year and his take is, he can admire the science and technology of the machinery and split it from it's intent.    So he doesn't see death, destruction and war, he sees state of the art aeronautics.    The kids just dug the aerial tricks and the excuse to hang with the family at the lakefront all day.

Little Beans Cafe Family Concert Series-The Boogers
Boogers and BBQ-What a great way to spend a Saturday as a family.   Like the Ramones?   Check out Little Beans impressive play space and come rock out with one of ChiIL Mama's favorite bands for the punk kin.    You can see our video interview with The Boogers and loads of live concert footage on ChiIL Mama's YouTube Channel--The Boogers.    Check 'em out!

The Dwarves at Bottom Lounge This Saturday-Enter Here to Win The Dwarves are Born Again

Don't expect the Disney Dwarves here, and Nashville Pussy's two femme fatales, Ruyter and Karen, coulda been Snow White, but they drifted.   But nobody needs a raunchy, rockin' night out like parents, as an antidote to an OD of saccharine sweet childhood entertainment.   So come on out to Bottom Lounge this Saturday night and send your punk kin to the sitter, unless they're 17+, then bring 'em along!

Enter below for your chance to win.    We'll announce our winner next Wednesday, August 24th, on Win A Disc Wednesday.   ChiIL Mama's giving away a copy of the Dwarves new CD, The Dwarves are Born Again ($17.95), to celebrate the show and the 25th anniversary of the most bizarre and misunderstood punk band of all times.

The Dwarves:

The Dwarves "Are Born Again" released May 3

The Dwarves Are Born Again features all your favorite heroes from the Dwarves long and twisted saga. Blag the Ripper,  HeWhoCanNotBeNamed, Rex Everything and a cast of thousands return to crush  the ears of a desperate public. Teamed with Top Ten producer Eric Valentine (Slash, All  American Rejects) they have created a perfect mix of hardcore punk, ear soothing pop, and everything in between. Nashville Pussy:   True rock n' roll doesn't require definition. It's self-explanatory based on a gut feeling and the unconditional devotion to the musical genre. Nashville Pussy have celebrated their brand of genuine rock n' roll for more than a decade, in classic style at times, surprising at others, but always earthy, raw and unadulterated. Band mastermind Blaine Cartwright (vocals, guitar), his wife Ruyter Suys (guitar), Karen Cuda (bass) and Jeremy Thompson (drums) poured their heart and soul into the latest rock release, entitled From Hell To Texas, which saw the band hone their most impressive recording to date alongside the non stop touring, from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Europe, Japan, and almost a year straight with the Reverend Horton Heat,

"We allowed ourselves this time to give the songs the chance to turn out as perfect as possible," Cartwright explains. "We kept playing the new tracks at our rehearsal room until they really clicked. I feel they're heavier and grittier than previous releases. The whole creative process took three long years, but the result has been worth the trouble."

Their songs are mostly about fun and good times, but occasionally – as in the case of 'Late Great USA' – they also stick the finger into an open wound. "Although Blaine's comical and satirical themes mostly prevail on From Hell To Texas, there are two or three numbers which deal with more serious subjects. 'Late Great USA' is a political song, we simply had to vent our anger at certain grievances in this country."
