ChiIL Live Shows Best Of The Fest--North Coast 2012 #NCMF @northcoastfest

It's here!!   And so it begins.   North Coast Music Festival 2012.   For the next 3 days, we'll be sending summer off in style and rockin' Union Park.

*Remember, this year kids under 10 are free with a paying adult (down from 12 and under last year-boo!)    Still, they've got Riot Fest beat.   They're only admitting punk kin under 5 for free.   Boo and hiss.   So get your little hippies & house freaks outta the house and introduce them to some of your favorites before they're a bar-worthy 18+ or 21+ and would rather die than go to a music fest with their PARENTS!

3 day passes (except VIP) and Sunday single day passes are SOLD OUT.

There are so many sweet choices.    We'll be shooting all 3 days, catching a bunch of sets and even more crowd shots.  Unfortunately--Murphy's Concert Law applies and multiple bands I want to see equally badly are up against each other.   We'll see how things play out or catch some half sets. I'm a bit old school in that it's more fun to shoot a band than a DJ--How many floating head/macbook shots can you really see before it gets boring.    I dig bands with instruments.    That said, we do plan to catch Girl Talk for sure.   We have some jam friends from back in the Grateful Dead and Phish Phreak days who are now completely obsessed with Pretty Lights.    So we may check them out live, too.    We ditched em at Summer Camp Music Festival for burlesque and Jane's Addiction, so since that's not an option here....maybe this time.   We've seen and shot both Girl Talk, Umphrey's McGee and Van Ghost (numerous times) at Summer Camp Music Festival and elsewhere and recommend catching them all this weekend.   We're especially stoked to finally catch Mathien live.   We were in the middle of a video interview with ALO and missed 'em at Summer Camp.   Mathien plays the Dos Equis Stage at 2:30 PM Sunday.   Check 'em out.

North Coast Music Festival Tickets On Sale Now

ChiIL Mama could only make it to the first day of the fest last year, but we can tell you it rocked!   This year we've saved the dates and we'll be back for the whole weekend.   We have a giant, photo filled North Coast feature coming up in the very near future on ChiIL Mama and ChiIL Out, so check in early and often.

Second Wave of North Coast Music Festival Artists Hits; Bassnectar, Fatboy Slim, Of Montreal, Major Lazer, ATB, and Zabiela and more than 20 of Chicago's best Local Acts!

Any doubts about North Coast's stronger lineup in year two will certainly be laid to rest with today's announcement of nine additional main stage acts, and a couple dozen big-name Chicago artists.  Low-end monger Bassnectar joins big beat icon Fatboy Slim and Elephant 6 standouts Of Montreal atop the second wave of North Coast acts announced for the fest's second incarnation.  Also included in today's additions is Diplo-collab Major Lazer, trance legend ATB, soul-revivalists The Budos Band, James Zabiela, Austin-based live electro duo Auto Body, and local roots rockers Great Divide.
Representing the city the festival calls home is a host of talent has headlined dates themselves at home and around the country.  California Wives, ascending every hype chart the Internet has to offer, joins Team Bayside High, hosts of “America's Best Party,” Midnight Conspiracy, Loyal Divide, BBU (Bin Laden Blowin' Up), Zebo, The Coop, Prob Cause, and Wyllys at the top of North Coast's local offerings.  With Van Ghost already on the bill, an even bigger Chicago artist still to be announced, and roughly 20 more Chicago names added today, the Windy City is undoubtedly better represented at NCMF than any of it's fellow summer festivals.
Plus, North Coast Festival has brought some of the city's foremost charities to the festival stage.  The Arts of Life Band, an edgy collaboration of disabled and non-disabled members of Chicago's charitable Arts of Life community, and a band representing the Intonation Music Workshop, a Chicago Public Schools after-school program that empowers kids to become rock stars, both have been added to the NCMF bill.
Festival organizers will follow this announcement with two more rounds of artists in the coming weeks.  Full-priced tickets will also be available at www.clubtix.com/northcoastfest

**All children 12 years and under will be admitted to the festival free of charge. Because North Coast is generous, and kids deserve good live music too.

Billy Elliot--Broadway in Chicago is celebrating it's 10 year anniversary, and ChiIL Mama will have the full scoop for you after tonight.   This award winning musical has been spawning rave reviews.   We can't wait to check it out.

Mammoths & Mastodons exhibit at The Field Museum is going the way of the dinosaurs and will be extinct after September 6th.

The exhibition, developed by The Field Museum, marks the first display of the baby mammoth in the United States and includes not only Lyuba's preserved body, but also scientific evidence shedding new light on mammoth biology. You'll discover how Lyuba enhances our understanding of the evolution of mammoths and their relatives: modern-day elephants, which are facing their own struggle for survival today.

Also highly recommended:

Lookingglass Alice has been extended again, but must close September 12th.   Don't be like the white rabbit....late for this very important date.   Get your tickets today.

Chicago Jazz Festival   We've been going to Jazz Fest every year for decades and are sad to miss it this time around.   We highly recommend this excellent music fest and can't believe how luck we are that it's still free.   Come on down to Grant Park Thursday through Sunday and ChiIL Out to world class jazz musicians.

Bristol Renaissance Faire  It's the last weekend for Ren Fair 2010.   Click here for Sagezilla and Du-Jay's fabulous adventures in merry olde England, earlier this summer.
