WHAT WE'RE WATCHING: The First Season of “STUDIO B” Will Be Released Monday, Oct. 22 on Multiple Streaming Platforms

Shows On Our Radar

CHICAGO CREATIVES, WHICH INCLUDE SECOND CITY ALUMS, UNITE TO LAUNCH
STUDIO B,
A NEW GENRE-BENDING MUSIC WEB SERIES THAT IS
SO CHICAGO IT IS BASICALLY DEEP DISH PIZZA

The First Season of “STUDIO B”
will Be Released Monday, Oct. 22 on Multiple Streaming Platforms

FREE with RSVP: public launch party the date of the release (Monday, Oct. 22 from 5 – 10 p.m.) at The Joinery

What happens when a group of talented Chicago musicians, actors, improvisers, stand-ups, songwriters, and DJs collaborate on a web series? You get “STUDIO B,” the three-episode workplace comedy of a struggling Chicago recording studio trying to make a comeback along with supporting its bizarre clientele. STUDIO B can best be described as “30 Rock” meets Spinal Tap coupled with original music by composer Julie B. Nichols.

Each episode follows a different musical act entering the studio to record what they hope will be their break-through hit, while the studio staff hopes it will keep them afloat. The first season of STUDIO B will be released Monday, Oct. 22 at 10 p.m. and will be available on www.studiobseries.com, as well as on Vimeo, YouTube, and Instagram TV. The creators of STUDIO B are hosting a public launch party the date of the release (Monday, Oct. 22 from 5 – 10 p.m.) at The Joinery, 2533 W. Homer Street in Logan Square, for fans and supporters to gather and watch the series. The screening will begin at 7 p.m. that night. To RSVP for the launch party, please email studiobseries@gmail.com or register at studiobseries.com.

Directed by Second City veteran and Jeff Award-winner Billy Bungeroth, the series features a slew of local artists, including famed improviser TJ Jagodowki as STUDIO B producer Peter “Push” Watts, Asia Martin as engineer extraordinaire Angela Cage, and characters played by Tien Tran, Jeff Murdoch and Max Thomas rounding out the studio staff. The members of the show’s creative team draw from their varied backgrounds to create something unique in the worlds of both music and comedy.

In addition to the regular cast, a bevy of artists drop in for featured performances: hip hop artist Marcel “Green Weedz” Wilks, stand-up Odinaka Ezeokoli (seen recently in a featured role on Netflix’s “Easy”), members of the Second City’s Mainstage cast and creator of Full Spectrum Features’ web series “The T,” Daniel Kyri.

The creators of STUDIO B are no strangers to genre mash-ups. Bungeroth and Nichols last collaborated for The Second City and Hubbard Street Dance’s hybrid comedy/dance show The Art of Falling, which Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune call “an exceptionally artful and life-affirming show.”

The creative team behind STUDIO B is proud to showcase this genre-bending of comedy and music. Bungeroth reflects on the melding of these genres and stated, “Believe it or not, my life in music yielded more comedy and crazy characters than my life in comedy. We wanted to bring that side of the business to life. Also, we wanted a comedy with genuinely great music! That’s a rarity.”

ABOUT THE CREATORS
BILLY BUNGEROTH, director/writer
Billy Bungeroth is a Jeff Award-winning director, writer, songwriter/producer, world-traveled musician, and sometimes actor who is proud to call Chicago his home. For over a decade he worked as a director/writer and creative director at The Second City Theater. During which time he subsequently toured around the globe with JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, a band he founded. Highlights for him included playing Lollapalooza and opening for Mavis Staples and Robert Plant. His songs can be heard in wide variety of radio, television, film and one video game. As a theater director his work has been seen throughout the country, including The Kennedy Center, Woolly Mammoth, La Jolla Playhouse, Lyric Opera, and with The Hubbard Street Dance Company.  He has had the honor of directing and performing with a diverse assortment that range from talent from Phish, to Terrence Howard, to Renee Flemming, to Fred Armisen, to Partirck Stewart. As an actor he can be seen in the upcoming final season of EASY on NETFLIX or performing with TJ Jagodowski and Emma Pope in TRIOS. Don’t worry though folks, he’s still found enough time to create The Epic Sound “a record label for the 21st century.” Studio B has been a true passion, as it combines all of his crazy worlds in one web series.

JULIE B. NICHOLS, music
Julie B Nichols is an alumna of The Second City Mainstage in Chicago where she did sound design, composition and music direction for four revues, including the Jeff Nominated South Side of Heaven. Make, Play and Discover with NINTENDO LABO Interactive DIY Kits for Nintendo Switch Available April 20th, 2018

NINTENDO LABO COMBINES
THE MAGIC OF NINTENDO SWITCH
WITH THE FUN OF DIY CREATIONS

Here at ChiIL Mama, my kids have grown up on Nintendo games, but we're also fans of good old fashioned DIY building fun. This spring Nintendo is merging a line of exciting build-and-play kits including a working mini piano, a wearable Robot suit, various vehicles, and more! Check out the first look video below and get ready to "Switch" it up for a melding of high tech video games and creative building fun.

Introducing Nintendo Labo, a new line of interactive build-and-play experiences designed to inspire kids and those who are kids-at-heart. Building on the 129-year history of Nintendo, which is rooted in innovative entertainment and game-play experiences, Nintendo Labo continues the company’s mission of putting smiles on people’s faces.

Together with the Nintendo Switch system (sold separately), the Nintendo Labo kits provide the tools and technology to MAKE fun DIY creations, PLAY games with your creations and DISCOVER how the magic of Nintendo Switch technology shapes ideas into reality.

With each Nintendo Labo kit, kids can transform modular sheets of cardboard – specially designed to interact with the Nintendo Switch console and Joy-Con controllers – into creations called Toy-Con. From a piano to a motorbike, a robot and more, each Toy-Con comes to life when combined with Nintendo Switch in different ways. As you build, you will have fun discovering how the technology works, and might even invent new ways to play with each Toy-Con!
For example, you can build a functioning 13-key piano that brings your musical creations to life once the Nintendo Switch console and Right Joy-Con controller are inserted. As you play, the IR Motion Camera in the Right Joy-Con detects which keys are pressed and translates them into unique notes that are heard through the console. You can even take control of your very own motorbike by constructing a functioning set of handlebars, with a Joy-Con inserted in each side and the Nintendo Switch console cradled in the middle. Simply hit the ignition button, turn the right handle to engage the accelerator and watch your adventure unfold on the Nintendo Switch screen, as you race to new destinations.

“Nintendo Labo continues our longstanding mission of making people smile by surprising them with new experiences,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “It is an exciting evolution of the Nintendo Switch platform – one designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and imagination in people of all ages.”

With Nintendo Labo, building is just as much fun as playing. Every Toy-Con creation presents exciting challenges and varying degrees of complexity, making each one a unique experience. Building Toy-Con is especially fun with family and friends, as you collaborate and share each other’s Nintendo Labo experiences. Once built, you can customize your Toy-Con creations with your own markers, stickers and paint to give them a personal touch – the only limit is your imagination!

Nintendo Labo launches on April 20 with two kits: the Variety Kit and the Robot Kit. With the Variety Kit, you can create many different Toy-Con, including two Toy-Con RC Cars, a Toy-Con Fishing Rod, a Toy-Con House, a Toy-Con Motorbike and a Toy-Con Piano. With the Robot Kit, you can build an interactive robot suit with a visor, backpack and straps for your hands and feet, which you can then wear to assume control of a giant in-game robot. Both kits include everything you need to assemble your Toy-Con creations, including the building materials and relevant Nintendo Switch software. The Variety Kit will be available at a suggested retail price of $69.99, and the Robot Kit will be available at a suggested retail price of $79.99. A special Customization Set that includes fun stencils, stickers and colored tape will also be available to purchase on April 20 at a suggested retail price of $9.99.

Each Nintendo Labo kit packs plenty of value, with a range of ways to make, play and discover in each kit:
Variety Kit ($69.99MSRP*)

·Toy-Con RC Car: Insert the Left and Right Joy-Con into your newly built RC Car and control its movement using touch screen controls on the Nintendo Switch console. The HD Rumble feature in the Joy-Con controllers will cause vibrations that move the car in the direction you choose. Materials to construct two RC Cars are included.

·Toy-Con Fishing Rod: Construct the Fishing Rod with an active, rotating reel that is attached by string to a cradle holding the Nintendo Switch console. Catch one of many exotic fish shown swimming on the Nintendo Switch screen by casting your Fishing Rod and unwinding the reel to lower the hook. Once you feel a vibration from the Joy-Con inserted in the reel, you must tug the Fishing Rod upward and crank the reel quickly to try and complete the catch!

· Toy-Con House: By inserting various assembled blocks into openings in the sides and bottom of the House, you can interact with, play games with and feed a cute creature on the front-facing Nintendo Switch screen. Each differently shaped block is detected by the IR Motion Camera on the Right Joy-Con inserted on top of the House.

·Toy-Con Motorbike: Insert each Joy-Con into an assembled set of handlebars to drive a motorbike on the Nintendo Switch screen. Pressing the ignition button starts the engine, while twisting the right handle activates the throttle. Leaning your body or turning the handlebars left and right controls the motorbike.

·Toy-Con Piano: After assembling a beautifully crafted 13-key piano and inserting the Nintendo Switch console and Joy-Con, you can experiment with your own musical creations by pressing different keys. You can even insert different assembled knobs to create new sound effects and tones!

Robot Kit ($79.99MSRP*)
·Toy-Con Robot: Create a wearable Robot suit, and insert the Left and Right Joy-Con into the designated slots on the backpack and visor to assume control of the robot, which is shown on the TV when the Nintendo Switch console is docked. Enjoy a variety of fun game-play experiences, including Robot mode, in which you can destroy in-game buildings and UFOs.

#bareselfie

Before you get too excited... or horrified... by bare, we're talkin' bare face and arms people.   As in, without makeup.

If you stumbled here by accident by searching out #bareselfie ... BUSTED.   I'm not an indiscreet high school girl or a film star.   I'm a middle aged mom.

Now for the rest of you...

Disclosure:   Thanks to Lancome and SheSpeaksUp for providing me with a complimentary sample to review.   As always, all opinions are my own.

Makeup free me... #bareselfie.

I go au naturale most of the time, unless I'm going to a fancy premier or I know my mug will end up on TV.   I don't want to hide under a bunch of makeup.   So I've been a little bummed out to see growing age spots multiplying like mega freckles and splotchy sun tan patches now that I'm 46.   And boy do they show up on my pale skin!

I've been trying out a complimentary sample of Lancome's NEW DreamTone Customized Skin Tone Correcting Serum 2x a day and today I'm reporting back to you on my results.   My skin is glowing, more even, and my dark spots have noticeably faded.   And extra bonus, it smells great too!

BUY IT & TRY IT YOURSELF:  Lancôme DreamTone is $98 for a 1.3 fl oz. bottle at department stores or Lancôme.com.

Before and After Arm Shots:
Apologies, the lighting is a bit different.   My husband wasn't around to shoot the second one, so I had to do an arm selfie, too.   There is a marked visible difference in person, though.

I was elated to be chosen to review Lancome's new DreamTone Customized Skin Tone Correcting Serum and be part of their #bareselfie movement.
