Have Brunch With Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast, Gabby Douglas In Chicago

Olympic Champion Gabrielle Douglas will visit Chicago with her mother, Natalie Hawkins, to highlight a special event exclusive to mothers and daughters.

What: Douglas will speak to hundreds of mothers, daughters and supporters at the “Pink Pearls & Pretty Dresses: Girls’ Empowerment Brunch.” The event is a fundraiser for Inspire Girls to Lead Our World (iGlow)—a Chicago mentorship program for young girls.

When: Sunday, October 14, 2012; 12pm-4pm

Where: Donald E. Stevens Convention Center; 5555 N. River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018

Why: The event will be a day of inspiration and empowerment for young girls and their mothers. It will also help raise funds for iGlow so that it can continue delivering resources and guidance for young women in the Chicago-land area.  In short, iGlow provides platforms for young girls to get answers to their questions about life and their struggles.

About the Founder of iGlowDelores Balogun is a Chicago native and currently serves on the advance team for First Lady Michelle Obama. She attended Chicago public schools and earned a Bachelor’s degree in event marketing at Illinois State University. She also worked for the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for several years.

A humanitarian at heart, Balogun is passionate about empowering the next generation of young women through mentorship so that they may radically impact their local and global communities. As a teenager, she often felt insignificant and sought validation from others. She is inspired by her own struggles with depression and low self-esteem.  But because of various mentoring relationships, she was able to triumph over her personal insecurities. This once insecure girl with no desire to live now imparts confidence and healing to the lives of other young girls.

Shout Out to the Rockin' Awesome US Women's Olympic Gymnastics Team

ChiIL Mama loves positive, mighty girl role models--no matter how you wear your hair!    You're all amazing and beautiful.

My 9 year old gymnast has been avidly watching the Olympic Games this year when she's not at team practice, and she's been happily recreating the team with her American Girl dolls!

This wasn't any kind of a formal shoot, just summer time, 9 year old fun.   But as a mom, I'm elated to see my daughter admiring and emulating Gabby Douglas and the other team girls.

Thanks to the real life American Girls out there, leading by example.   And showing a whole generation of young girls that hard work and practice pays off, it's beautiful to be strong and healthy, and that judging someone by something as trivial as a hair style is.....you said it, Gabby, "Silly."    Thank you.
