Edge Adventures Deep River Aerial Park Now Open For The Season!

Edge Adventures Deep River Aerial Park, the only Aerial Park in Northwest Indiana, opened for the season the first weekend in May. Edge Adventures Aerial Park is a tree-to-tree adventure course that features over 50 challenging treetop obstacles and zip lines that provide thrills for guests at every skill level. It also features a kid’s park with elements closer to the ground that are designed for children ages 4-7. Edge Adventures Deep River Aerial Park is open weekends beginning May 5, and will be open daily May 26 through mid-November.

Visitors can harness up and climb up into the trees to embark on adventures that include traversing across rope bridges, balancing on log beams, climbing on cargo nets and much more. They can also glide along on zip lines as they explore the beauty of nature while hanging out high up in the trees. The aerial park is positioned beside Deep River Water Park, giving visitors the opportunity to visit two major attractions in one day.

Edge Adventures provides experienced and novice adventurers with the chance to test their skills and daring over various obstacles inter-connected by zip lines laced through the canopy of the forest. Edge Adventures provides all safety equipment - helmet, harnesses, belays and gloves. Guests will participate in a safety briefing and practice course, and are assisted by Edge Adventures trained staff throughout each of the course routes.

Certain age, height and weight limits apply for the larger courses. Adventurers must be at least 8-years old, with a minimum weight 40lbs and a maximum of 275lbs. Hands must reach 66" high with feet flat on the ground. The two-hour adventure is $42 for adults and $32 for children 8-12. The three-hour adventure is $49 adults, $39 children 8-12. And an all-day adventure is $79 for adults and children 8-12.

In addition to the larger courses, there is also a smaller kid’s course for the littler adventurers. The kid’s park includes low to the ground elements and zip lines. Tickets are $10 for the one-hour kid’s park adventure (ages 4-7).

Edge Adventures Deep River Aerial Park NWI is the newest Edge Adventures Aerial Park, joining two other Indiana locations: Edge Adventures South Bend and Edge Adventures Koteewi near Indianapolis.

For the first time since 2012, Medieval Times will unveil an all-new storyline on Dec. 7. And this time, a woman is holding the reins. In a major break from Medieval Times’ 34-year tradition of casting a king in the show’s lead role, the company has revealed that a queen is now in charge and sole ruler of the land. She is cast as a firm but kind ruler respected throughout the kingdom who inherited the throne at the passing of her father, the previous king.

The company’s leadership developed the idea to cast a matriarch, based in part on guest feedback that they would like to see women having more significant roles. The Schaumburg, Ill.-based castle will be the second of nine Medieval Times locations nationwide to roll out the new show.

“Where previously our female characters played in more supportive roles, we are now showing a woman fully in charge, a woman whose authority is sometimes challenged, but she quickly rises to the occasion as a strong leader, squelching opposition,” says Leigh Cordner, Medieval Times show director.

Jousting, fighting, horsemanship, swordplay and a fresh, hot, four-course feast remain central elements of the dinner attraction. With the cast and script change come a series of other significant changes to the show:

• More than 700 new costumes for all nine castles’ performers including horses, all of which are custom-designed and hand-made at a dedicated costume shop near Dallas Design District.
• 200 new suits of armor, shields, and helmets, all of which are custom-designed and hand-made at a dedicated armory in Florida.
• More than 350 team members and 225 horses train and rehearse new lines and fight scenes for three months while still presenting the current show. 
• It takes two months to teach a queen to ride an Andalusian stallion. 
• New music was composed by Dr. Daniel May, composer and jazz pianist who scored “Everest” and other films and who worked with Sting, The Moody Blues and others. He directed and recorded Medieval Times’ new show composition in Kiev with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. He directed the choir in Ukraine with lyrics written by poet and choir member Solomia Gorokhivska, and a solo cellist and violin player from Pittsburgh.
• The audience experiences a live action film score that is precisely synchronized with every element of the show, from lights to fights; jousts to jabs; the Queen’s entry to curtain closings; and more.
• The sound and light team spends 120 hours programming 300 new music cues and 500 new lighting cues.

The Silver Whistle explores what happens when an unlikely hero chooses to embrace her ever-changing world and the people inhabiting it. 

The production is an empowering and highflying adaptation of the original children's book written by Jay Williams. Anna Basile and Abby Pajakowski direct this circus theatre production at the Actors Gymnasium. While reading the story, they were struck by its illustrations - an entire world is brought to life with its beautiful, whimsical and often very funny images. These images inspired the choreography and circus routines, honoring the highly physical style of performance for which Actors Gymnasium is known. 

The adaptation is directed by Anna Basile and Abby Pajakowski. Circus Choreography is by Co-Founder and Artistic Director, Sylvia Hernandez-DiStasi and Tommy Tomlins. Dance choreography is Rosey Jo Neddy.

The Actors Gymnasium Youth Circus is a performance-based training program that culminates in a fully-produced, original show. This intensive experience pairs professional artists and youth performers to collaboratively create an original new show and includes high-quality training in drama, dance, aerial and circus arts. In the process, students develop skills in collaboration, problem solving, and social interaction with their peers. The Youth Circus is one of our most popular ticketed events each year.
