Disney’s ALADDIN TO PLAY BROADWAY IN CHICAGO’S CADILLAC PALACE THEATRE MAY 17-28

ChiIL Mama’s ChiIL Picks List

TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE FRIDAY, MARCH 17

Disney’s ALADDIN

TO PLAY

BROADWAY IN CHICAGO’S

CADILLAC PALACE THEATRE

FOR TWO WEEKS ONLY

MAY 17-28

Back in 2017, we covered Disney’s ALADDIN here in Chicago in a big way. It's a fabulously fun production for all ages and great for multigenerational memory making. The show's only playing Chicago for 2 weeks, before it disappears, so don't wait for the FOMO to set in.

Disney Theatrical Productions, under the direction of Thomas Schumacher, and Broadway In Chicago are delighted to announce that individual tickets for the long-awaited return engagement of Disney’s ALADDIN will go on sale to the public on Friday, March 17. The hit Broadway musical comedy will begin performances in Chicago at Broadway In Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph St.) on May 17 for a limited two-week engagement through Sunday, May 28.

ALADDIN, the hit musical based on the Academy Award®-winning animated film, opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre to critical acclaim on March 20, 2014, and quickly established itself as one of the biggest new blockbusters, breaking 16 New Amsterdam Theatre house records and spawning nine productions on four continents. Worldwide it has welcomed more than 16 million people and can be seen currently on Broadway and on tour across North America, as well as in Tokyo, Mexico City and Madrid, with a UK tour slated to open later this year. The Broadway production recently played its 3,000th performance and joined the list of Top 20 longest Broadway runs.

About ALADDIN

Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, ALADDIN features music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Sister Act), lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (Evita, Aida) and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (The Prom, The Wedding Singer), with a book by Beguelin, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).

ALADDIN, adapted from the animated Disney film and centuries-old folktales including “One Thousand and One Nights,” is brought to fresh theatrical life in this bold new musical. Aladdin’s journey sweeps audiences into an exciting world of daring adventure, classic comedy and timeless romance.  This new production features a full score, including the five cherished songs from the Academy Award-winning soundtrack and more written especially for the stage.

The animated film ALADDIN was released by Disney in 1992 and was a critical and box office smash, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year.

The film won the Oscar for Best Original Score and introduced the hit song “A Whole New World,” which won the second of the film’s two Academy Awards as Best Original Song.  The Peabo Bryson/Regina Belle recording of the tune soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

ALADDIN is designed by seven-time Tony-winning scenic designer Bob Crowley, seven-time Tony-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz, two-time Tony-winning costume designer Gregg Barnes and sound designer Ken Travis.

The production team also includes illusion designers Jim Steinmeyer and Rob Lake, hair designer Josh Marquette and makeup designer Milagros Medina-Cerdeira.  The music team is headed by music supervisor and music director Michael Kosarin, who also created the vocal and incidental music arrangements, joined by orchestrator Danny Troob and dance music arranger Glen Kelly. John MacInnis is the associate choreographer, Jason Trubitt is the production supervisor and Myriah Bash is the general manager.

Anne Quart serves as co-producer.

A previous North American tour of Casey Nicholaw’s Broadway production played 1,201 performances in 41 cities from April 11, 2017 to March 12, 2020, drawing more than 2.7 million people.

DISNEY’S ALADDIN Star, Adam Jacobs To Lead Workshop With IHSMTA Finalists This Monday

ADAM JACOBS, STAR OF DISNEY’S ALADDIN NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
TO LEAD WORKSHOP WITH
ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARD FINALISTS

Broadway In Chicago is pleased to announce that the sixth annual Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards will feature a workshop led by Adam Jacobs, star of Disney’s Aladdin North American tour, who originated the title role in Aladdin on Broadway, along with his wife Kelly Jacobs, who previously performed in Chicago in the Mary Poppins North American tour.  The Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards will be held at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E Chestnut) on Monday, June 5, 2017. Sponsored by Aladdin and Grosh Backdrops & Drapery, the Illinois chapter of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards serves as an annual national celebration of outstanding achievement in musical theater performance by high school students.

Jacobs most recently originated and starred in the iconic title role in Aladdin on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre.   Jacobs, who received a 2014 Drama Desk Award nomination for “Outstanding Actor in a Musical” for his portrayal of “Aladdin,” has previously appeared on Broadway as “Marius” in Les Miserables and “Simba” in The Lion King and recently released his debut album, “Right Where I Belong,” featuring songs of Alan Menken.

In addition to the workshop, finalists will receive tickets to Aladdin in Chicago (currently playing at the Cadillac Palace Theatre through Sept. 10, 2017).  Finalists will perform for a panel of casting agents and theater professionals on stage at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place on June 5, 2017. From the twenty-four finalists, the top two performers (Best Actor and Best Actress award recipients) will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City to participate in a performance enrichment program and represent the state of Illinois at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards), on Broadway.

An award for Best Production, Best Direction of a Musical, and the Grosh Scenic Design Award will be presented to participating schools.

The 2016 Illinois High School Musical Theatre Award recipients were Jack Cahill-Lemme of Park Ridge, IL (Main South High School) as BEST ACTOR for his portrayal of Edward Bloom in BIG FISH, Cecilia Trippiedi of Orland Park, IL (Carl Sandburg High School) as BEST ACTRESS for her portrayal of Eliza Doolittle in MY FAIR LADY, Cary-Grove High School  for their production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA (BEST PRODUCTION) and Coal City High School for their production of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (BEST SCENIC DESIGN).

For more information on both awards and complete rules and regulations, visit BroadwayInChicago.com/IHSMTA.  For more information on The Jimmy® Awards/The National High School Musical Theatre Awards™ (NHSMTA), visit www.JimmyAwards.com.

ABOUT THE JIMMY AWARDS
The Jimmy® Awards/The National High School Musical Theatre Awards™ (NHSMTA) impacts more than 50,000 students who participate in high school musical theatre competitions sponsored by presenters of Touring Broadway productions throughout the United States.  A Best Actress and Best Actor winner from each of these competitions is sent to New York for a week-long theatre intensive of coaching and rehearsals with industry professionals in preparation for a one-night-only showcase on Broadway, where a panel of judges crowns the nation’s top performers. Named for Broadway impresario James M. Nederlander, the program has been the catalyst for more than $1,000,000 in educational scholarships.

In 2012, the program inspired preeminent broadcaster WGBH Boston to produce a 3-part documentary series called “Broadway or Bust,” which follows students on a journey from their hometown competitions to their debut on Broadway. The series remains popular viewing at www.pbs.org. Presented by The Broadway League Foundation, the ninth annual Jimmy® Awards will take place on Monday, June 26, 2017 at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. Coaching and rehearsals for this one-of-a-kind event will be held Monday, June 19, 2017 through Monday, June 26, 2017 in New York City. For more information, please visit www.JimmyAwards.com.

IHHS This Weekend! #home #housewares #IHHS2014 #IHHS2015

It's time once again for the incredibly huge, unbelievably cool world showcase for the home, The International Home and Housewares show right here in Chicago. We've been covering it extensively for years and this season's no exception. We'll be brunching with Cake Boss, lunching with bloggers and the press, and making the booth rounds, to suss out the hottest useful gadgets and eco friendly finds.

Click here and scroll down for loads of our past photo filled IHHS features.

IHHS is not open to the public, so once again ChiIL Mama will be your eyes and ears on the inside. Check back like we vote in Chi, IL... early and often. We'll have photo and video filled recaps, cool new product reviews, news tips and giveaways too! IHHS2015.

As we gear up for our coverage this year, I wanted to again give a thankful and happy shout out to a few of our favorites from 2014.

Fun Wins:
We had a fabulous time at the 2nd annual Saturday Social Media Brunch with Socialkaty. ChiIL Mama Tweeted, Facebooked, Instagrammed and Pinned my way to 2 sweet wins, chosen from all the real time social media mentions. Like and follow us this year too. The real time fun for #IHHS2015 begins bright and early THIS Saturday. Be sure to follow along on our social media channels and look for the hashtag.

HUGE thanks again to WiltonArmetale. This whimsical and practical platter has become one of our favorites since I won it at the IHHS Housewares Show last year. It's a gorgeous piece and so useful as grill to tableware!

Gourmet Grillware 18 3/4" Fish Griller
The fish griller is ideal for cooking fish and shrimp on the grill without sticking or flaking. Fish will cook evenly and quickly. Grill and serve in the same piece, hot food stays hot longer.

Guess who showed up at our blogger lunch with his cookbooks for everyone? The charming Chef @FabioViviani!! #ImAtTheShow #Chicago #ihhs2014 #SeenAtTheShow

He'll be back again for IHHS2015 too.

Our 2nd social media win was directly from Aladdin. They were giving out adorable BPA free, dishwasher safe, plastic Mason Jar glasses with straws and lids, full of tasty, refreshing drinks. I won two BIG 32oz Mason Jar cups and gift cards to Binny's Beverage Depot for one of my tweets! Thanks again Aladdin. They've been put to great use this year!

I sure could use some spiked refreshment after 3 days of the Home & Housewares Show & a zillion miles of walking!! #AladdinMason #ihhs2014

#AladdinMason. Something old something new... spring has sprung with funky fun colors & new twist on a classic design! Thanks for the cherry pomegranate drink & the rockin mug. #SeenAtTheShow #ihhs2014 #ImAtTheShow #Chicago #SweetSwag
