IMW Presents Winter Music Extravaganza By Kids For Kids

ChiIL out with ChiIL Mama and a host of talented kids IN bands.  We've supported The Intonation Music Workshop (IMW) and its annual Rock-N-Pop Circus for years.

This Saturday, February 15th, The Intonation Music Workshop (IMW) will present its 4th annual Rock-N-Pop Circus, an all-ages event at Chicago's famed Lincoln Hall featuring performances by kid bands plus hands-on music activities to keep the whole family entertained -- the perfect way to spend a winter afternoon!

This year’s showcase features three of IMW’s flagship bands, THE POP TOTS, THE GLOWS and THE IMW ALL-STARS. Joining them under the musical big top will be the IMW Instructor Band, with talented teaching artists straight from the IMW classroom playing your favorite pop hits. Don’t miss their interactive set, complete with freeze dance and a rhythm jam!

The family-friendly musical extravaganza will also offer Rock Star Face Painting, a Celebrity Photo Booth, a "Musical Petting Zoo" and more circus surprises!

Intonation Music Workshop (IMW) empowers children to become rock stars on every stage of life through innovative music education. IMW’s in-school, after-school, and summer programs provide year-round access to instruments, instruction, performance opportunities, and mentorship to youth age 6-17 in Chicago who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Through the process of learning to play instruments and working together with their peers, IMW students have the chance to get involved, learn new skills, express their creativity, and find their niche by playing in a pop band. 

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT'S GOT 12 YEAR OLDS HAUNTED BY HEROES THIS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

HAUNTED BY HEROES, often called “the world’s youngest rock band”, will be joining Train, Neon Trees and more on this Thursday’s “America’s Got Talent”. 

These Northern California-native twelve year olds have played over 100 live performances, and have been profiles on several national news networks. The band recently recorded their debut CD with Sylvia Massy, who has also worked with such luminaries as REM, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, System of a Down, Tool and many others. 

Haunted by Heroes were also recently on The Today Show, where Matt Lauer called them, “Unique, with a larger than life sound. The band has also previously been in rotation on Cartoon Network for its rendition of Aerosmith’s " Walk This Way." Catch Haunted by Heroes next show, which will be at Hollywood’s Whisky-a-Go-Go Saturday, October 20. All ages welcome.

11 YEAR-OLD ROCKERS HAUNTED BY HEROES ON NBC'S “THE TODAY SHOW” THIS MORNING

HAUNTED BY HEROES rocked NBC’s “Today Show” this morning, January 3, 2012. The segment, filmed in Los Angeles and San Francisco, features the band of middle-schoolers as they play The Sunset Strip Music Festival and other West Coast venues. Haunted by Heroes , whose members all recently turned 11 years- old, have been the subject of national news stories as the world's youngest rock band, and recently released their debut single "Rock Me Roxy," recorded with famed producer Sylvia Massy (Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Danzig, Prince, Seal, and many others). Their debut album is set for an early 2012 release. "Rock Me Roxy" was also featured in the "Rock Band 3" game.

Here at ChiIL Mama, we know kids rock, and are happy to help spread the word about young talent.  In fact, congrats are in order for Chicago local kids band, Northbrook Garage, who won their studio time to record at Ardent Studios!   We helped spread the word in early December, so thank you to all of our readers who voted.   In another update, from the same Dec. 6th kid band news round up, our rockin' underage friends in Chicago band, When Flying Feels Like Falling (winners of The Next Big Thing contest at The Metro)

You may have caught Haunted by Heroes on their Cartoon Network video of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way " (performed with 8 year-old rapper Lil P-Nut, similar to Aerosmith’s collaboration with Run-DMC), which aired nationally in early September, 2011.

Haunted by Heroes is also slated to appear Thursday, January 19 at the Anaheim Convention Center for The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM). The band ends the NAMM Show weekend at the Sunset Strip's Whisky a Go Go on Saturday, January 21.

When Flying Feels Like Falling To Play The Next Big Thing At Metro This Sunday

Talented teen alt/punk band, When Flying Feels Like Falling, just placed 2nd in The Battle of The Bands competition at Reggie's Rock Club, November 19th, with School of Rock!   Come check 'em out rocking Metro this Sunday.   Tickets are just $15 and the showcase is open to all ages and starts at 11am.  

We've been so busy with adult bands and shows for the littles that we almost missed the middles!   But here at ChiIL Mama we love to support emerging artists and not only bands FOR kids, but bands full of kids who are making cool music, gigging out and making a name for themselves.    

We have a whole series of interviews and live footage still to come, featuring Chi-Town bands full of under agers that rock!   We'll be featuring Purple Apple, The Blisters, Northbrook Garage, The Socialists, and Kids These Days.   So check back with ChiIL Mama like we vote in Chi, IL...early and often.

We interviewed The Socialists, a Partridge Family for the new millennium, where the Dad and a whole family of kids all play together in a rockin' band that covers 80's punk and new wave classics like The Ramones, Morrissey, and The Smiths.   We also shot their whole show at The Empty Bottle, earlier this year.

We also had a chance to interview the kids in When Flying Feels Like Falling (WFFLF), Purple Apple and The Blisters earlier this year, when they played a Girl's Rock! Show at Schubas, and they've gotten even better since then.    We've been so crazy busy this year with upcoming events, that we back burnered their feature, but we'll have their interview and a bunch of live show footage from their Schubas gig up soooon.   Here's a little bit of our prior coverage.   The WFFLF girls on guitar are as colorful as their names--Violet and Saffron.   What color is a Fiona?!    For now, check out their web site to play a couple of their songs and watch their sweet, very recent Misfits cover below.
