Friday night was a highlight of CIMMfest 2014, among many. Chicago's Black Bear Combo (Balkan, gypsy, street jazz hybrid) was the perfect way to cap off a phenomenal day of film, music and networking. It was our pleasure to capture the fun for ChiIL Mama & ChiIL Live Shows.

Friday, the screening of Brasslands sold out, but the fun continued with a Balkan night at Moe's Tavern.Black Bear Combo, Balkan food, and raffle of Parni Valjak tickets!
BRASSLANDS won Best Documentary Feature at CIMMfest 2014 and a second Sunday screening was added! If you missed it, keep an eye out for this one!

The Blackhawks playoffs game coincided with the after party, so my husband bailed. I went on to shoot the show without him, but I was jazzed to find the game on multiple screens at Moe's, so I could do both. It was great to see the CIMMfest film fanatics and the hockey fans peacefully coexisting and rockin' out to Balkan gypsy jams together, while cheering the Hawks to a 5-2 victory!

ChiIL Mama's original footage of 2013 Grammy award winning Okee Dokee Brothers-Bluegrass for Breakfast LIVE, February 2012 at Chicago's Beat Kitchen's Concerts for Kids. Last Sunday, Minnesota'sOkee Dokee Brothers had to cancel their gig at our Beat Kitchen Kids' Series in Chicago. Ya see...they had this little conflict called The Grammys, which they went on to win in the category of "Best Musical Album for Children". I think that's a great excuse if I ever heard one!! Check back with Chi, IL Mama like we vote in Chi, IL...early and often. We'll be giving away two of their rockin' albums in the very near future, posting our original video interview with the guys, show shots and lots more live show footage! Check 'em out. Monday marks the final day of The Shams Band's weekly July Schubas residency. ChiIL Live Shows will be back shooting again. Congrats to our 2 winners this week. Sherry C. and Mary Z. Each has a pair of tickets waiting at the door.
The Shams Band will be celebrating their second full length record, Cold Cityby hosting their own July residency at Schubas Tavern.
Music is supposed to be fun, exciting, thought provoking and daring. On every live performance, The Shams Band makes sure that their audience leaves each concert with a personal feeling of satisfaction. Drawing heavily from their Kinks, Rolling Stones, and Wilco influences, singer/songwriters Biggins/Gulyas create distinct, personal songs. Once completed with unique four-part harmonies, the songs come to life, tell stories, and send audiences singing all the way home.
The Shams Band features music trapezing the line between blues, country, and pop music. They have opened for national acts Drive-By Truckers, Dawes, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.
The Shams Band is the epitome of a "do-it-yourself" group. They get every audience excited and dancing from their catchy hooks and rock 'n roll atmosphere. It's whiskey-driven. It's a party. It's rock 'n roll with a banjo.
Cold City was released July 9th (the first show of the residency).
The Shams Band will be celebrating their second full length record, Cold City by hosting their own July residency at Schubas Tavern--playing 4 shows, every Monday this month.
The Shams Band & Derek Nelsonwere awesome in the second night of The Shams Band's month long residency! Schubas is 21+ unless otherwise noted, but these shows make a great parents' night out. In fact, Shams Band singer/lead guitar player, Donnie Biggins, is about to be a first time dad in September!

Catch them every Monday in July with different openers. They're rockin' their new album, Cold City, and breakin' out old favorites as well. We've been enjoying The Shams Band for the past 3 years and have shot stills and video of their shows from Chicago Blue Grass & Blues Fest 2012, Lincoln Hall, and even intimate Logan Square Bars like Coles and The Whistler.
