HELP OUT: Adopt A Senior Dog or Cat This December Through Orphans of the Storm Fee Free Through December

ORPHANS OF THE STORM EXTENDS ITS PARTICIPATION IN ASPCA'S“SENIOR ADOPTION MONTH”
INTO DECEMBER

Adoption Fees are Waived for Senior Dogs and Cats at All Three Locations

Sure, puppies are cute and all, but just like babies and toddlers, they are a LOT of work. I currently have a senior rescue dog, Iggy, who will be 9 this January and she is a loving member of the family. It's a relief to have a dog that's past the teething on everything phase, the housebreaking, and the boundless energy of the young. She's content to cuddle up on the couch with her head on my lap. Thinking of adopting a dog or cat this winter? Orphans of the Storm® has you covered and they're even waiving the fee for adult cats and dogs aged eight years or older for the month of December.

For the month of November, Orphans of the Storm®, one of the most well-respected and largest animal shelters in Chicago, participated in the nationwide senior adoption initiative in conjunction with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®. November is national adopt a senior pet month. Orphans of the Storm today announced that it will be extending this initiative through the month of December.

As part of the program, all adoption fees for adult cats and dogs aged eight years or older will be waived, and people can welcome new furry friends in their families. Ruth Helen Animal Hospital and Clinic, a partner of Orphans of the Storm, will also be donating senior wellness exams, senior blood work, distemper and rabies checks and collar tags, for all newly adopted senior cats and dogs with a value of $400 in savings. Customers will still have to pay a fee at the Animal Hospital of approximately $154 for dog services and $102 for cat services.

As many of the shelter friends have been housed at the shelters for years, the initiative puts a spotlight on those members to help them find loving forever homes. All are encouraged to bring as many members of their family as possible to the shelters, other pets included, to meet the shelter animals and find the best senior fit for their family during these months.

The ASPCA is a national leader in the areas of rescue, adoption and welfare and has worked tirelessly for more than150 years to put an end to animal abuse and neglect. Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, located at 2200 Riverwoods Rd. in Riverwoods (Deerfield), the Highland Park Adoption Center, located at 468 Central Ave. in Highland Park and the Northbrook Court Adoption Center, located at 2171 Lake Cook Rd. in Northbrook will all be participating.

HELP OUT: ORPHANS OF THE STORM WAIVES CAT ADOPTION FEES IN JUNE TO HELP FIND NEW HOMES FOR ORPHANED CATS

June Is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month
Free Medical Exam and Micro-Chip included with Adoption

Ready to be a forever home?
Come to Orphans of the Storm, where you will not just adopt a pet, but a “friend for life.”

Orphans of the Storm (OOTS), one of the best respected and largest animal shelters in the Chicago area, will waive adoption fees for cats two years and older every weekend in the month of June 2018. In partnership with Ruth Helen Wolf Animal Hospital and Animal Medical Center in Skokie, they will also be offering a free medical exam and micro-chip with each cat adoption. Orphans of the Storm is located at 2200 Riverwoods Road, and also has satellite locations in Northbrook, Gurnee and Highland Park.

In honor of June Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month, the goal of the weekend promotion is to find as many homes for loving, adoptable cats by waiving the typical $90 adoption fees. (Additional vaccine charges still apply).

“As a longstanding Riverwoods institution, we have made it our goal to find good homes for all adoptable pets that are brought to our doors for 90 years,” said Gail Donahue, Shelter Administrator. “This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone to come to explore our beautiful facility and find the next loving and lovable addition to their family.”

The Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat offer will begin Saturday, June 2 and continue Saturdays and Sundays in June through June 30. All cats over the age of two are available for free adoption (typical veterinary charges still apply, although a free health examination and microchipping is included). Those looking to adopt should bring valid identification with their current address. It is recommended that adopters also bring as many members of their family as possible (including other cats or dogs) to ensure that the pet they are hoping to adopt is a good fit.
