Tonight CABARET ZAZOU’S Luminaire Makes Worldwide Debut In Chicago's Spiegeltent

Tonight ChiIL Mama will be ChiILin' in one the most unique Chicago theatrical spaces, a vintage Spiegeltent on the 14th floor of the Cambria Hotel in the heart of Chicago’s Theatre District. This will be our 3rd visit to this space and we can't wait to see what's next for Randolph Entertainment LLC, producer of the fan favorite Teatro ZinZanni Chicago. We're lifelong lovers of all things circus and cabaret so we're beyond excited to be a part of the opening night festivities for CABARET ZAZOU’s premiere production, Luminaire. The new, groundbreaking, immersive variety dinner show is making its worldwide debut. Luminaire is directed by Dreya Weber, and stars critically acclaimed performers Frank Ferrante and LiV Warfield as they lead an international cast of exceptional entertainers. Sassy, sexy, and sultry, Luminaire is designed to dazzle and delight audiences with stunning cirque acts, interactive comedy, captivating vocalists, and a stellar band, complimented by a delicious multi-course meal.

Luminaire stars Frank Ferrante, an award-winning actor, comedian, and director best known for his interactive stage comedy, including The Caesar in Teatro ZinZanni, which earned him a Chicago Tribune nod as a top ten performer of the year in 2019, and his PBS national television program Frank Ferrante’s Groucho. The production also stars singer, songwriter, and producer LiV Warfield. Her achievements include a critically acclaimed hit solo album - The Unexpected, a Soul Train Music Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance, and performing as part of Prince’s New Power Generation. Liv Warfield has toured with some of music’s biggest names, bringing her unique voice and style to audiences around the world. Luminaire is directed by Dreya Weber, whose aerial design and choreography credits include Magic Mike Live in addition to aerials for Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Madonna, Cher, Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Kylie Minogue, and Pink’s 2010 Grammy Awards performance of “Glitter in the Air”. Dreya brings in her unique death-defying grace to dazzle CABARET ZAZOU audiences.

Luminaire also features an extraordinary cast of performers including Broadway star and Grammy nominee James Harkness from New York City, master juggler Viktor Kee from the Ukraine, thrilling contortionist Ulzii Mergen from Mongolia, and the highly acclaimed Hand to Trapeze Trio Trio Vertex from England. On the bandstand is music director Chuck Webb (bass), Jon Negus (woodwinds), Jose Martinez (drums), and new to the ensemble this fall are Theodis Rodgers (piano) and Phil Seed (guitar).

TEATRO ZINZANNI is excited to announce the opening of their brand-new production at the Spiegeltent ZaZou, located on the 14th floor of the Cambria Hotel Chicago Loop (32 W. Randolph). The whirlwind of live comedy, music and cirque served with a multi-course gourmet feast is back! Randolph Entertainment LLC presents a new international cast of characters performing astounding acts and bringing audience members a unique, immersive dining and live entertainment experience. It has been a long couple of years of dreams delayed and hopes dashed, but it’s time to move from “What if?” to “Let’s find out!” The new story on stage at TEATRO ZINZANNI… at the finest fine diner in the Chicago Loop - the chef, Madame Z (Chicago’s own Bethany Thomas) and head waiter, Doily (Kevin Kent), have assembled a hardworking restaurant crew of unemployed circus artists from around the world. An old friend comes roaring up on his motorcycle - Phénix (Cunio) - ready to bring their dreams to life.  What will they wish for?

Guests are invited to remember their own wishes and dreams in this latest TEATRO ZINZANNI CHICAGO production. 

TEATRO ZINZANNI brings to Chicago an international cast of premier entertainers for this engagement. Founder Norm Langill is the artistic director of the production, and the menu is designed by Chicago’s own Debbie Sharpe – The Goddess of The Goddess and Grocer. The included multi-course gourmet feast features multiple entrée selections, including vegan options. A fabulous à la carte cocktail menu, wine & beer list and special occasion treats round out the dining experience.

Noel Aguilar

​​A descendant of one of Mexico’s first Circus families, Noel is the eighth generation of the Aguilar name. His passion for the art of juggling began at the tender age of 5, following his father Benito’s lead to continually perfect his craft. His consummate dedication and love for entertaining and performing has given him the opportunity to perform, compete, and win in some of the most prestigious festivals in the world. Let Noel's staggering speed mesmerize you with his incredible charm and through the roof energy. Don't blink--you might miss something!

 

Cunio

Called the “spawn of Freddie Mercury & Janis Joplin,” Cunio is thrilled to be back in the tent! Local audiences may recognize him from the Lyric Opera’s 2018 production of Jesus Christ Superstar (Pilate) and the final year of Jersey Boys’ (Tommy DeVito) long run at the Bank of America Theatre. Cunio gained national attention as the “electrifying wailer” in retro-rock group Under the Streetlamp on PBS and for his “gloriously gritty” solo album Back Alley Soul, which debuted at #6 on iTunes R&B/Soul charts. As a vocalist/MC for Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, he’s toured the world, and his videos have amassed over 4 million views on YouTube. In New York, he appeared on Broadway in Hairspray (Corny Collins) and is a featured vocalist/MC for Company XIV & Duane Park. Regionally he has starred at American Repertory Theater, Arkansas Rep, North Shore Music Theatre and The Kennedy Center. @Cunio4

 

Michael Evolution

Michael van Beek, also known as Michael Evolution, is a world-class basketball freestyle juggler who has amazed millions of people in his career so far. With two decades of live stage experience, Michael has earned his marks in the performing arts industry! He became the first basketball freestyle juggler to bring excitement into the world of theatre, variety and circus with his artistic creativity and captivating skillset. His successful career has brought his performances to prominent entertainment companies such as Cirque du Soleil, GOP Variety, UniverSoul Circus, URBANATIX, Wintergarten Berlin, CIRCUS AFRIKA! AFRIKA!, Krystallpalast Variety, and many more! Michael also was the body double/ choreographer for the legendary NBA athlete Kobe Bryant in a commercial for Turkish Airlines, became a finalist at Beat The Best Dutch television show, delivered the perfect performance in words said by Dieter Bohlen on German television at Das Supertalent and won the ‘Varieté Et Cetera’ award at Krystallpalast’s Newcomershow Festival.

 

Elena Gatilova

Crimean five-time national champion rhythmic gymnast Elena Gatilova began her career in dance and aerial performance in 2002 with an invitation from Cirque du Soleil to join the opening cast of their newest Las Vegas production, Zumanity, where she was featured as a principal character and performed over 2,500 shows. Since then, Elena has appeared in Playboy, Vanity Fair, the documentary film Cirque du Soleil: Lovesick, 43 episodes of the popular Italian TV show Chiambretti Night, London's prestigious Royal Variety Performance, and alongside Ditta Von Tesse in Franco Dragone’s hit cabaret Tabboo. She has also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Last Call with Carson Daly. Elena has worked with world-renowned artists including Cher, Thierry Mugler, David LaChapelle and choreographer Bill Goodson. Recently, Elena completed a world tour with Circus 1903, a new production from creators of the hit Broadway show, The Illusionists. This marks Elena's ninth collaboration with TEATRO ZINZANNI since 2011 and she is thrilled to be back in the Windy City to entertain Chicago audiences.

 

Kevin Kent

Kevin has been on the TEATRO ZINZANNI stage since the very first performance in 1998.  Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune, said of Kevin Kent’s performance in TEATRO, “But the real reason to go, or go back, to my mind, is to watch the superlative work of Kent,…” He is a physical and improvisational comedian known for his quirky portrayals of classic female characters. Kevin trained right here in Chicago with Del Close, Byrne Piven, amongst other improvisation and theater icons. He continued his training in London working with Outcast Theater, an LGBTQ Theater that grew in the heart of London from seeds planted at Cambridge. Kevin settled in Seattle for many years performing in theater, on the radio as Dan Savage’s Sidekick on the live broadcast of Savage Love Live, and in television as Aunt Jo in the much beloved queer soap, Love Laverne.  He has developed and directed many original pieces.  Kevin lives with the love of his life, Joe, in Northern New Mexico.

 

Marjorie Nantel

Marjorie Nantel is an acrobatic performer at the very pinnacle of world-class aerial and contortion artistry. She was born in Montreal where she trained as a dancer from the age of 6. She has performed with Cirque du Soleil in numerous shows and created the role of the Red Spider in the original cast of OVO. She was featured in the Berlin production of 7 Finger’s Loft at the Chameleon Theatre and was an audience favorite during five seasons at Palazzo in Germany and Holland.  Just recently she was the acrobatic stunt double for Eva Green and played one of the clowns in the movie Dumbo directed by Tim Burton. Currently she is a resident artist at Le Monastère Cirque Cabaret in Montreal. Career highlights include performing in Royal Albert Hall and being invited to perform her bathtub contortion act for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh.

 

Duo Rose (Sylvia Friedman and Samuel Sion)

A complex routine of balance, strength, discipline, and grace, Duo Rose brings a particular elegance to their presentation of the human body in all its beauty. Samuel and Sylvia have worked together since 2007 to combine their backgrounds in aerial arts, gymnastics, and contortion to create this dynamic trapeze act. Their act has toured internationally in some of the top circuses and variety houses in Europe including Tigerpalast Varieté, Circus Roncalli, and Knie's Salto Natale. They have also won 11 awards from international circus festival competitions. In August 2010, they made history by becoming the first American circus artists to perform in Havana, Cuba since 1959. Officially sanctioned by the United States Government to travel to Cuba, they competed in the 9th International Circus Festival, CIRCUBA in Havana, where they earned the Bronze medal.

 

Bethany Thomas

Bethany Thomas is a Chicago-based singer, actor, and writer. Theater credits include work with Goodman Theater (A Christmas Carol), Northlight Theatre (Songs For Nobodies), Writers Theater (Into The Woods, A Moon For The Misbegotten), Milwaukee Rep (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Color Purple, Ragtime, Songs For Nobodies- US premiere), Chicago Shakespeare (The Tempest), Porchlight Music Theater (Marry Me A Little), and Court Theater (Porgy and Bess). She's also frequently entangled with the following Chicago institutions: The Neo-Futurists, Steppenwolf, Second City, Backroom Shakespeare Project, The Fly Honeys, The Paper Machete, and The Hideout. Bethany is a proud recipient of a Joseph Jefferson Award, a Black Theater Alliance Award, and a 2019 3Arts Award in music. As a singer/songwriter, BT tours and records with Welsh country-punk musician Jon Langford, and recently released two critically acclaimed original rock albums- Material Flats (with Tawny Newsome) and the solo BT/She/Her. TEATRO ZINZANNI has worked hard to ensure that its patrons have a safe and magical experience. They have enhanced air handling and filtration and incorporated new sanitization technologies. A strong health protocol is in place mandating vaccination for all staff and performers.

Visitors who are exempt for medical or religious reasons may provide proof of the medical or religious exemption and a professionally administered COVID-19 test (PCR within 72 hours of attendance or Rapid (antigen) Test within 6 hours of attendance). ChiIL Mama and ChiIL Live Shows, will be ChiILin' with Teatro ZinZanni for dinner, the last weekend of this month, right here in Chi, IL. Check back soon for our full review. We can't wait to check out this unique, new dining and circus experience for ourselves. If you haven't caught one of their shows yet, go already. If you have, they've released a new block of tickets through March 29, 2020 and will have new acts in after October 3rd as well. 




Teatro ZinZanni and Randolph Entertainment are delighted to announce that the chaos will continue as Love, Chaos & Dinner opens up a new block of tickets for its Chicago run through March 29, 2020. Teatro ZinZanni is thrilled to welcome new cast members with jaw-dropping original acts to The Spiegeltent ZaZou, a Belgian mirror tent filled with unique, historic touches, located on the 14th floor in the Cambria Hotel Chicago Loop- Theatre District (32 W. Randolph St.), starting Oct. 3, 2019.


Tickets will go on-sale Sept. 8, 2019 for performances beginning Sept. 30, 2019 through March 29, 2020. Tickets are currently available for performances through Oct. 2019.

**Due to the nature of the show, we do not allow children under the age of 8. It is a three-hour evening filled with sophisticated humor, sensuality and innuendo. There is no special ticket price or menu for children.



The new acts joining Love, Chaos & Dinner’s unique family of awe-inspiring performers include Master Illusionist Voronin, Chef Character Comedian and Queen of Hearts Kevin Kent, the Yodeling Dominatrix Manuela Horn, and contortionist and Teatro ZinZanni newcomer Elayne Kramer. Teatro ZinZanni’s founder Norm Langill will continue to direct the production.



Continuing cast members include Parisian acrobat Domitil Aillot, opera singer and born Chicagoan Kelly Britt, the body juggling Anastasini Brothers, hoop aerialist Elena Gatilova and cabaret star Amelia Zirin Brown (AKA - Rizo) who will rotate out of the production as Teatro ZinZanni evolves over the coming months.





Teatro ZinZanni is critically acclaimed combining the best of cirque, cabaret, spectacle, live music, comedy and fine dining. Described as the “Kit Kat Klub on acid,” Teatro ZinZanni brings to Chicago an international cast of extraordinary entertainers for its highly anticipated premiere engagement.



“The Goddess” Debbie Sharpe will continue to oversee the menus for private events in this stunning space. The Spiegeltent ZaZou is available to host lunches Monday through Friday and dinner on “Dark Nights.” The one-of-a-kind venue can seat up to 330 guests and is a perfect setting for corporate meetings, social events, convention hospitalities, non-profit galas, and other unique celebrations. The spacious bar and lobby area can seat groups of up to 100 guests for an elegant dinner or accommodate up to 200 guests for a cocktail reception event.

CAST BIOGRAPHIES
Kevin Kent: A physical and improvisational humorist, Kevin Kent was a member of the original cast of Teatro ZinZanni that debuted in Seattle in 1998 and again in San Francisco in 2000. To continue his streak of ZinZanni firsts, he was part of the first Teatro ZinZanni touring production in Southern California. Kevin combines his writing, odd notions, and his improvisational skills to transport the audience to exciting and wonderful places. Kevin and his partner, Joe, have a company called K. Kent Co. Performance. Their original production, Eulogy, is a memorial for a loved one, created new each night from family photos supplied by the audience. Kevin and Joe live in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. Teatro ZinZanni is their home away from home.



Voronin: Known throughout the world as “The Maestro,” Ukrainian-born illusionist Voronin has been described as the essence of Buster Keaton and Jacques Tati. After graduating from renowned Kiev Academy of Circus and Variety Arts and Russian University of Theater Arts, Voronin founded his own company, The Theater of Cagliostro. He is an acclaimed recipient of first place in magic competitions in Germany, Moscow, and Austria; Monte Carlo Magic Stars award, Magic Hands Grand Prix, Siegfried and Roy prize for Master Magician, and The Great Lafayette Award. Well-known in the world of magic for his unique style, director’s vision and original character creation, Voronin is one of the most sought- after stars of the European cabaret circuit. He is returning to Seattle fresh from his most recent appearance at the International Festival of Magic in Madrid, Spain. An original cast member from the 1998 Seattle premiere, this show marks Voronin’s 25th Teatro ZinZanni performance.



Manuela Horn: Known as the Austrian Amazon, Manuela is a yodeling, dancing and acting comedic force of nature. After small roles in independent movies and her own German children's TV show, she turned her 6' 2" height into an asset as a host for corporate events and galas across the globe. Imported from Berlin's Pomp Duck & Circumstance in 2001, Teatro ZinZanni has given her the performing home she always wanted. This is her 18th year with ZinZanni. In 2009, one of her characters, the yodeling dominatrix, made it to the semifinals of the TV show “America's Got Talent.” With an appearance in the movie “Rent,” Manuela earned her SAG membership. Manuela regularly performs in cities across Europe with other dinner cirque company’s like Palazzo, Da Capo and Teatro. Since 2010, Manuela has become “The Queen of Oktoberfest” by performing Yodel versions of popular songs. Elayne Kramer: Elayne Kramer is a sixth generation circus performer from Argentina who began training with her father at the age of four, making her debut in the ring as a contortionist at the age of seven. She has performed (and continued her training) ever since, becoming one of the top hand-balancers of her generation. Elayne has won several international circus awards, including a Bronze Clown at the International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo in 2008. She has performed all over the United States and was a featured artist in the Big Apple Circus’ 35th anniversary production, Legendarium in 2012-2013. She has also appeared on several television shows, notably The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Good Morning America. This is Elayne’s premiere run with Teatro ZinZanni and she is excited to be at this new TZ venue in Chicago and a part of this amazing cast.

Two parts rock n’ roll, one part Chicago, and one sassy Aussie Debbie Sharpe is The Goddess. The Goddess got her background in rock n’ roll catering, traveling the globe and feeding some of the most influential musicians of our time including The Rolling Stones, Madonna, U2 and Fleetwood Mac. Instantly falling in love with Chicago, she got off the Paul McCartney tour bus and laid down roots in the Wicker Park – Bucktown neighborhood in 1990.
