Not Your Grandmas' Palm Court

**Special Offer for ChiIL Mama's Readers: Palm Court Arlington Heights is offering a FREE dessert with a screenshot of this feature, through June 10, 2019 (Dine in only)**

My husband grew up in Wheeling, IL and when I mentioned I was going to a blogger dinner at Palm Court in Arlington Heights, he told me his family went there fairly frequently with the grandmas throughout the 70's and 80's.

Foodie fun with a host of Chicago's top bloggers at Palm Court, Arlington Heights

With new ownership and the same chef at the helm for over 30 years, Palm Court is poised to be the best blend of classic and cutting edge. They're adding exciting new menu items, more philanthropic efforts, and a new sound system, while keeping the tried and true staples they've built a reputation on. Your grandmas will still adore the Palm Court they've known and loved for 39 years, but so will the next generations, looking for a date night destination or a fabulous choice for milestone celebrations.

It was my great pleasure to partner with Palm Court Arlington Heights for this sponsored post. I have been compensated. As always, all opinions, photos, and experiences are my own. Earlier this month I sampled an impressive array of menu items, fun wine pairings, and decadent desserts and all were spectacular. I highly recommend giving them a try, for your special occasions, date nights, and multigenerational celebrations.

The following is a recap of our evening’s delicious private tasting menu, wine, and bar treat!

Appetizers
Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail – (4) U-12 Gulf Shrimp, poached, chilled, served over crushed ice, accompanied by cocktail sauce with a dab of prepared horseradish

Baked Goat Cheese – creamy goat cheese baked in house made marinara served with crostini for dipping. a great appetizer for sharing
Escargot en Champignon – a French classic of escargot, mushroom, garlic, and butter this dish is extremely popular and an iconic dish of fine dining
Oysters Rockefeller – (4) Malpeque oysters topped with spinach and mornay sauce.

Salads
Walnut & Poached Pear Salad – mixed greens, poached pears, walnuts, blue cheese crumbles, raspberry vinaigrette providing a wonderful balance of sweet and savory.  this salad can also be topped with salmon, shrimp, chicken, or steak to make it into more of a meal

Chopped Salad –  crisp iceberg, turkey, avocado, bacon, tomatoes, swiss cheese, red onion, ranch dressing chopped fine make this a refreshing lunch dish

Entrees – all entrees start with your choice of a house salad or cup of soup (either the soup of the day or our French onion soup) and are served with a vegetable medley and choice of starch (Rice pilaf, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, baked potato, or hand-cut French fries)

Butcher’s Block all of our steaks are USDA Prime grade, wet aged for 21-28 days, and hand-trimmed in house (we even have our own bone saw)

Porterhouse –the porterhouse is a steakhouse classic consisting of the sirloin (aka NY Strip) on the long side and the tenderloin that is a minimum of 2” from the bone (the filet side).  Having the bone run through the center of this steak adds flavor as well as joining the best of both steaks in one dish

Slow Roasted Prime Rib – our signature cut is available 7 days a week.  slow roasted, savory, and juicy, this cut is offered in 3 different sizes: sm (12 oz), med (16 oz), and the dbl cut (24 oz).  endcuts are limited, but this cut is served either on or off the bone.  the choice is yours

Fried Gulf Shrimp – our gulf shrimp prepared butterflied, breaded, and deep fried to a golden brown. Crunchy and sweet served with cocktail sauce on the side

Alaskan Halibut – wild caught Alaskan halibut, coated in crushed macadamia nuts, served with meuniere sauce

Dover Sole – deboned tableside and served amandine. does it get any more classic than this?

Lobster Tail – 7-8 oz African cold-water lobster tail. broiled. served with a drawn butter kept warm by candle while you enjoy.  this is offered as a main course consisting of two tails or you can add a single tail to any entree to create your own surf and turf

Meat & Game
Berkshire Pork Chops – our lunch portion is one, dinner two. each bone-in porkchop weighs in at roughly 8 oz and is served with a balsamic glaze

New Zealand Rack of Lamb – a beautiful 8 bone rack of lamb weighing in at approximately 12 oz, cooked to temperature, and cut into four double chops.

Time To Switch It Up! Hot New Nintendo Switch Out Today.

ChiIL Mama's Adventures With
Nintendo Switch:

It's our great pleasure to partner up with Nintendo once again, and introduce our readers to the incredible new Nintendo Switch. This groundbreaking system is released to the public TODAY, 3/3, but my 15 year old son and I got to play with it a couple weeks ago in Chicago at Revel Fulton Market!

Hopefully you caught loads of our real time social media posts from the event. We were live streaming on YouTube & posting photos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, documenting our adventures with Nintendo Switch. It was amazing to be invited to be one of the first families in the country to see the new games in action, and we had too much fun.

Check Out Our Full Set Of Photos In The Slideshow Here.
More of our favorite shots are below.

The press preview at Revel Fulton Market on 2/18 was a gamers paradise and a visual feast of fun. The giant, open room was filled with cozy little living room scenes, each with screens, Nintendo Switch games, and comfy decor.

We had a blast trying out some classic favorites like Street Fighter II, Sonic, Mario Cart and Skylanders, and some new finds too.

We had a blast playing Mario Cart 8 Deluxe on an airplane!

They even had a vintage Mario Diner set and volunteers playing game demos on the BIG screen for prizes. The whole event was fantastically fun.

Switch It Up:

This groundbreaking system is versatile, and replaces the need for separate  home gaming units, and portable travel units. Here at ChiIL Mama, we are impressed by how tiny yet responsive the controls are! Switch enables players to play some games while facing each other, and stay active and interactive by throwing real punches, dancing and moving in real time, to advance game play.

My teenage son, who is an avid gamer, thought it was brilliant and I was relieved that it was fairly easy to figure out, even for a middle age mom! The controls are intuitive and evolved from earlier familiar systems we grew up with like GameCube, Wii, and DS systems. From what we've seen of Nintendo Switch, we highly recommend Switching up.

Nintendo Switch is the new home video game system from Nintendo. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system can be taken on the go so players can enjoy a full home console experience anytime, anywhere. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system, with unprecedented new play styles brought to life by the two new Joy-Con controllers.

At home the system rests in the Nintendo Switch dock, which lets you play with family and friends on a TV in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock at any time, the system instantly transitions to handheld mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its 6.2-inch screen, which displays bright, high-definition gameplay at the park, on an airplane, in a car, or at a friend’s apartment.

The Scoop On The Games:

Something old... something new. My husband and I grew up with the first generation Nintendo characters and games ever invented. They're reissued for Nintendo Switch, easier to play than ever, and ready for parents (and grandparents) to introduce those classics to the next generation of gamers. Then there are new games like Arms, a battling game that's a great workout at the same time, that we thoroughly enjoyed learning how to play. Game launch dates range from March 3rd through the holiday season. All release dates are listed below.
