Birthdays, Netflix and Reinventing Yourself #StreamTeam

Today is my birthday, so what better day to celebrate reinventing yourself? Birthdays are great for making a new start, setting goals, and following dreams. Birthdays are also a great time to kick back and enjoy Netflix with family and friends while you nosh on cake and ice cream. I know we did!`

Speaking of change... My mom even got in on the action for my birthday today & made a collage on social media of me now and at ages 1, 2, & 3. Recognize that toddler all these decades later?

This month, our Stream Team Theme is Reinventing Yourself, so check out some fun movies and TV show ideas via Netflix that rock that theme, and get inspired.
Spring's a great time for new beginnings as well, birthday or not. It's crazy how much we grow and evolve as the years fly by and yet how all those past ages stay with us as well. No matter how much someone changes, some elements of their personalities and their faces are entirely recognizable.

Cha cha cha changes:
Did you catch our post earlier this month about the debut of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt? Click here to check our coverage out. If you caught the first few episodes, you know that the three main characters have something in common: resilience. Despite their circumstances, Kimmy, Tituss and "Jaqueline" were all able to reinvent themselves in one way or another to make it in New York City.

Movies and TV can show kids that just because you may be quiet and shy today, that doesn't mean you can't be Superman tomorrow. Use this month's list of titles to help kids see a new side of themselves, even if it's not permanent -- after all, you can do anything for 10 seconds. (Thanks for the wise words, Kimmy.)

Now here are a few more wise words on the subject from David Bowie!

"Changes"

I still don't know what I was waiting for
And my time was running wild
A million dead-end streets
and every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But I've never caught a glimpse
Of how the others must see the faker
I'm much too fast to take that test

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time

I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence and
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their world
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't tell them to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Where's your shame
You've left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can't trace time

Strange fascination, fascinating me
Changes are taking the pace
I'm going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Oh, look out you rock 'n rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Pretty soon now you're gonna get older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time

Summer Time is Me Time Via Netflix #StreamTeam #NetflixKids #Ad

This month our Netflix Stream Team Theme is all about the big kids (AKA: Grownups).

This summer we're all about taking care of the kids and ALSO taking time out for the big kids (AKA: grownups). This month's Stream Team topic is timely as always, and it's all about mom. Your favorite shows may be on hiatus, but Netflix has a selection of titles to get you through the summer months. And yes, that includes all-new episodes of one of our favorite Netflix originals -- Orange Is the New Black season 2 just launched June 6. So it's a great time to catch up or jump on board if you haven't seen it yet.

We totally kick back and relax with Netflix when the kids are tucked in bed or off to sleep overs with friends or grandparents. In fact, my husband and I are so busy that if if wasn't for Netflixs and flex scheduling, we wouldn't be able to keep up with any series!  We love lazing around in the hammock with headphones and Netflix on a portable device when we have down time. But my husband shoots TV shows--often for weeks on location and brutal 12 hour days. And I review plays, movies, and live concerts which mostly fall on nights and evenings. As you can imagine, that cuts into our regularly scheduled TV time.

And then there are the kids... At 11 & 13, our kids have full, exciting, busy lives of their own with lots of activities and no driver's licenses! You know what that means...

Parenting is generally a 24/7 gig, and those long summer days can be loooooooong if you're at home with the kids when school's out. And you're the taxi driver, cook, and entertainment planner, among other things. Summer break often means MORE work and LESS break for parents, just like those so called "vacations". So don't forget to take a sanity break from summer break and kick back with Netflix and something YOU chose to watch.

Available on Netflix:

1. Orange Is the New Black- We actually haven't seen it yet, but I know friends who rave about it. Thanks to Netflix Stream Team for the rockin' Orange Is The New Black beach bag, book, and squishy chicken. It's been a HUGE hit on the beach and a huge hit on Netflix.

4. Sherlock-- We're huge Sherlock fans here at ChiIL Mama! Every time we come to the end of their all too short seasons (those Brits!) I go into major withdrawal.

5. Breaking Bad- We've seen the first few seasons of Breaking Bad but are woefully behind. Yay for Netflix. We can binge watch while the kids are off at sleep away camp for a week!

Sleeper hits you may have missed:

1. Weeds--Ditto for Weeds. We've seen some of the early seasons but aren't anywhere near caught up. Nobody needs a good kid-inappropriate series like parents do! It's a great antidote to all the sugar & sweet you end up watching with the littles.

3. Freaks and Geeks--We love love love Freaks and Geeks and have seen all the episodes multiple times. Highly recommended.

Thanks again to Netflix Stream Team for the rockin' Orange Is The New Black swag bag, book, and squishy chicken. It's been a HUGE hit on the beach and a huge hit on Netflix. They also sent along a fun Turbo Fast light up head band and buttons. These aren't for the grownups per say--though we do know more than a few grownups who would be happy to indulge and rock that look!

We're counting on this fun swag and the awesome animated episodes they're based on to keep the peace in the car on long road trips and give us a bit of whine free me time. We caught a press preview of the movie Turbo before it even hit the theatres, reviewed the Wii game, and now we're digging the Netflix cartoon version. Turbo is sure to become a fast favorite in your family too.

ChiIL out with us this summer in Chi, IL and beyond at ChiIL Mama (family friendly) and our sister site ChiIL Live Shows (adult). Check back with ChiIL Mama for more cool Stream Team Themes every month!  Stay cool and stream on...
