Lookingglass Theatre Company invites students to create theatre magic this year with an exciting return to in-person Summer Camp! Lookingglass Theatre’s Summer Camp offers a four-week immersive experience in theatre, movement, music, and art, for young people in grades 3-8. Under the guidance of its long-standing director Emilio G. Robles, camp will continue its long running tradition of theatrical adaptation (a Lookingglass core artistic value) through a youth centered lens of multicultural storytelling. Young artists will receive training from professionals in the core values of Lookingglass Theatre: Collaboration, Transformation, and Invention.

These values have guided the Lookingglass Ensemble to create some of the most memorable and spectacular theatre experiences and they will guide campers on their journey as they explore their own creativity while writing, rehearsing, and performing an original show featuring their own art, dance, and original music. At the end of Summer Camp, students and their newly created performance piece will be featured on the Lookingglass Main Stage at the historic Water Tower Water Works.

Lookingglass Theatre’s Summer Camp will take place June 27 – July 22, 2022, Mondays – Fridays from 9:30AM – 3:15 PM at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts. Tuition for the 4-week camp is $885. Discounts are available for early and multiple registrations and partial and full scholarships are available for those who would like to apply.

Porchlight Music Theatre Launches Inaugural Summer Camp for 7-12 Year Olds

Cool Camps For Chi, IL Kids:

There's energy in new beginnings and it's fun to be first. So ChiIL Mama's excited to announce that there's a NEW theatre camp in town, starting this summer. Porchlight Theatre has been an iconic and adored Chicago company for ages, and a long time favorite of ours for musical theatre. Who wants to be part of their inaugural summer?! My own kids did theatre camps with quite a few different companies over the years and it was a great confidence builder, fabulous fun, and a way to make lasting friendships.

Porchlight Music Theatre
School of Porchlight Summer Camp

Porchlight Music Theatre’s School at Porchlight launches its inaugural summer camp for children ages 7 - 12 years old. The four sessions are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

Students will work with professional teaching artists including Michelle Lauto and Aaron Thacker-Woodruff, to create a brand new musical. Classes encourage students to develop new skills in writing, singing, acting and movement. Drama naturally creates an environment where students must take risks. Through games and activities, the teachers help build the students’ confidence. Each student will participate in the creation and completion of the musical, learning the importance of practice and working as an ensemble member and how both will help support them on stage. Students will be able to share their experiences and passions to create a dynamic songs and story for their final show. Each show will begin and end with a whole camp number to a popular hit from a musical or the radio that relates to the theme of their show.

Brain Arts Theatre Camp Rocks!

"I really enjoyed Brain Arts Camp because it is extremely fun to work with other kids to create a play about anything we can imagine. Everything about it is fun including brainstorming, writing a script, developing characters, building set pieces and props, rehearsing, and performing a show. Through the few years I went to the camp, I learned team building skills and made new friends who I continue to talk to about the performances we have done. Overall, Brain Arts camp is a very fun experience and I suggest it to everyone."  Dugan Kenaz-Mara - age 14 (returning for the 3rd year)

The plays they create will strive to reflect different aspects of life, relevant to themselves and their peers.  Each week, on the very first day of camp, the students will select a theme that they will use to help inspire their play.  Some of the themes will include:  friendship, family, fears/dreams and personal stories, as well as stories inspired by art/artists, literature, sound/noises, environment, and movement/physicality.  Then, each game or activity we work on that week will be geared towards the student selected theme, culminating with scripting, rehearsing and performing their original works.
