Hey March Fourth--You've played my little sister's March 4th birthday party in Portland for years. Thanks for hitting Chicago on my 14th wedding anniversary. You rock! Can't think of a better way to celebrate.







Once you catch these guys LIVE, you'll be addicted! We've been seeing them & shooting stills/videos at their shows for years, and we're super stoked they were not only playing our anniversary, but double headlining with another of our favs, Liquid Soul! Also, they moved to bigger digs at Lincoln Hall, so the stilt walkers weren't hunched over on the ceiling like they've been at Martyrs.

I first heard about March Fourth from my sister who lives in Portland, OR, where they hail from. They play a lot out there, but their big trademark bash is always a March 4th show, where they let anyone in for free who was born that day, (like my sister). She played me some of their YouTube clips and I was hooked. Since then we've caught them every time their tour bus rolls in to Chicago.

Here's the latest Via March Fourth: My, what a busy summer! MarchFourth is on a mission to visit each and every one of you this year it seems (more info about the US fall tour coming soon). Seriously. It will take a lot of scrolling to get to the bottom of this show list! From San Diego, California to Portland, Maine to Tampa, Florida, and from the mountains of Telluride, CO (8700 ft) to the streets of New Orleans, LA (0 ft) and everywhere in between, there's a pretty good chance we're headed your way (except maybe the southwest, since we just returned from there). Let's hope the A/C in the bus is fixed for good this time, because this summer is going to be HOT!!! For a little taste of life on the road with M4, I suggest you check out stilter/stunter Phill's blog. He's kind of new to M4, joining after stilt veteran Sid Simpatico retired last summer due to a knee injury. Phill's been writing these great tour recap posts on Facebook for a while, but now he's taken to the blogosphere. I'm sure there will be much to write about this summer, so keep an eye there to follow our adventures! Here's a video from our birthday show this year of Phill and the gang doing stilt acro to "Surfunk" (a newish song by Taylor Aglipay).

This Saturday, February 15th, The Intonation Music Workshop (IMW) will present its 4th annual Rock-N-Pop Circus, an all-ages event at Chicago's famed Lincoln Hall featuring performances by kid bands plus hands-on music activities to keep the whole family entertained -- the perfect way to spend a winter afternoon!

This year’s showcase features three of IMW’s flagship bands, THE POP TOTS, THE GLOWS and THE IMW ALL-STARS. Joining them under the musical big top will be the IMW Instructor Band, with talented teaching artists straight from the IMW classroom playing your favorite pop hits. Don’t miss their interactive set, complete with freeze dance and a rhythm jam!

The family-friendly musical extravaganza will also offer Rock Star Face Painting, a Celebrity Photo Booth, a "Musical Petting Zoo" and more circus surprises!

Intonation Music Workshop (IMW) empowers children to become rock stars on every stage of life through innovative music education. IMW’s in-school, after-school, and summer programs provide year-round access to instruments, instruction, performance opportunities, and mentorship to youth age 6-17 in Chicago who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Through the process of learning to play instruments and working together with their peers, IMW students have the chance to get involved, learn new skills, express their creativity, and find their niche by playing in a pop band.

Chicago's creative forces for families unite for Future Hits' 2nd Annual Halloween Spectacular! In addition to a full-on rock show by Future Hits, this event offers a chance for families to take a tactile trip and work with their hands on a fun craft before the concert with Kite Collective. 

Moira Funbuttons, the host of Chicago's excellent new television show for families Adventure Sandwich, will be the MC and guide us all through a costume contest, dance-off and more. Whole Foods is sponsoring the event and will provide wholesome Halloween treats for all, so don't miss it!

Matt Baron teamed up with Emma Hospelhorn (Hollows, New Millennium Orchestra) and Ben Sutherland (assistant professor of audio arts at Columbia College) to form Future Hits. The band exists as a natural extension of the music Matt started writing for teaching with at Chicago Public Schools. Future Hits recorded their debut album, "Songs for Learning," with Mark Greenberg (Coctails, Wilco, Andrew Bird).
