Broadway In Chicago is delighted to announce that Disney’s ALADDIN and the Lincoln Center Theater production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s THE KING AND I will make 1776 half-price tickets available through the League of Chicago Theatres’ Hot Tix program Wednesday, June 28 beginning at 12 PM through Sunday, July 9, 2017. 

Tickets will be available to select performances in July for purchase through Hot Tix booth locations (72 E. Randolph St., 108 N. State St., or 163 E. Pearson St.) or at www.HotTix.org while supplies last. Broadway In Chicago has developed this offer in conjunction with the League of Chicago Theatres which provides services and support to over 250 Chicagoland theatres.

Disney’s ALADDIN opened its North American tour to critical acclaim on April 19 in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre.  The Chicago Tribune hails ALADDIN as, “eye-popping and extravagant.” The Chicago Sun-Times raves, “This quintessential musical comedy flies into Chicago on an opulent magic carpet.” The Daily Herald declares, “Aladdin soars into Chicago and has audiences cheering!!” and Time Out Chicago heralds ALADDIN as, “Old-fashioned Capital-E entertainment. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the show features music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Sister Act), lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (Evita, Aida) and four-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Beguelin, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Something Rotten!).  

ALADDIN, adapted from the Academy Award®-winning animated Disney film and centuries-old folktales including “One Thousand and One Nights,” is brought to fresh theatrical life in this bold new musical.  Aladdin’s journey sweeps audiences into an exotic world of daring adventure, classic comedy and timeless romance.  This new production features a full score, including the five cherished songs from the Academy Award-winning soundtrack and more written especially for the stage.

THE KING AND I

One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, THE KING AND I boasts a score that features such beloved classics as “Getting To Know You,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance,” “I Have Dreamed” and “Something Wonderful.” Set in 1860’s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher, whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

Directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, the Lincoln Center Theater production won four 2015 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical. Hailed as “first-rate, sumptuous” (The New York Times) and "too beautiful to miss" (New York Magazine), this iconic musical is led by Olivier Award-winning actress Laura Michelle Kelly, known for her performance as the title role in the London production of Disney’s Mary Poppins as well as Sylvia Llewelyn Davies in the Broadway production of Finding Neverland. Kelly stars opposite Jose Llana who returns to the role of “The King of Siam” after two starring engagements in the acclaimed Lincoln Center revival.

Sher reunites with an award-winning creative team from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific and The Light in the Piazza. THE KING AND I has music direction by Ted Sperling, sets by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber (Tony Award winner for THE KING AND I), lighting by Donald Holder, sound by Scott Lehrer and casting by Telsey + Company/Abbie Brady-Dalton, CSA. THE KING AND I features choreography by Christopher Gattelli based on the original choreography by Jerome Robbins.

Broadway In Chicago is thrilled to announce the premiere engagement of the eagerly-anticipated North American tour of Aladdin will offer day-of-show rush tickets in Chicago for all performances, beginning tonight, Tuesday, April 11.  A limited number of rush tickets (at least 10 total for each performance) will be available for purchase only at the box office at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph) on the day of the performance, and will cost $25 per ticket, with a limit of 2 tickets per person. Disney Theatrical Productions and Broadway In Chicago announced today that, due to popular demand, the eagerly-anticipated North American tour of Disney’s Aladdin will extend its stay in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph Street) through September 10, 2017; there will be no further extensions. More than 187,000 tickets for the newly-announced performances from July 5 to September 10, 2017 will go on sale Friday, April 7.  The hit Broadway musical will begin performances on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in preparation for a Wednesday, April 19 opening night.  As previously announced, Adam Jacobs, who originated the title role in Aladdin on Broadway, will play the iconic role on tour.

The animated film Aladdin was released by Disney in 1992 and was a critical and box office smash, grossing over $500 million worldwide (not adjusted for inflation) and becoming the highest-grossing film of the year. 

The film won the Oscar for Best Original Score and introduced the hit song “A Whole New World,” which won the second of the film’s two Academy Awards as Best Original Song.  The Peabo Bryson/Regina Belle recording of the tune soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Aladdin is designed by seven-time Tony-winning scenic designer Bob Crowley, six-time Tony-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz, two-time Tony-winning costume designer Gregg Barnes and sound designer Ken Travis.
