Mellow Yellow Monday--ChiILin' At Riot Fest

This weekend at Riot Fest, someone pointed out that our metal and punk shows on ChiIL Live Shows are anything but chill.   Very true, but they did go down in Chi, IL (or Chicago, Illinois), so the name refers to a sense of place, not a mellow style.   Still, we'll share a few of our yellow tinged fest photos for Mellow Yellow Monday.

X:

Loads of people love to relax with old school punk, stage diving and loud rock, and you'd better believe thousands of people who spent the last 5 days in an orgy of music and late night revelry are having a very mellow Monday.

Suicide Machines:

Social Distortion:

Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band:

Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg:

Rock N Roll Redemption For All Seasons With The Reverend Peyton

Our summer was bookended by rockin' sets by Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band.    We first shot them Memorial Day weekend when we did press coverage for Summer Camp Music Festival.    Those gorgeous, spring, outdoor shots can be seen here.

Then we caught them again for a fall appearance at The Congress Theatre, where they opened for Social Distortion as part of Riot Fest 2011.   The aging, crumbling theatre was darker, and so was the crowd...despite the amazing, warm weather and riot of autumn color outside.    The Rev. and his wife again got the audience well warmed up with some wild riffs, the flaming washboard, and hot guitar and drums.

Riot Fest Line Up Announced-Multi-Day Passes on Sale This Friday

What's better than an old school punk fest?    An old school punk fest all hepped up on energy drink....     Yeah, well.   If you're old as well as old school, Red Bull will give you back some of that stay out all night and party like it's 1985 energy without getting you arrested.

Seriously though, it's a pretty sweet line up with another major announcement coming the 24th.   X is one of our all time favorites and we caught them at both Double Door and Metro.   We last saw Helmet at Melkwegin Amsterdam, back in the day.   We're also happy to see The Dead Milkmen will be comin' back around, too.

The Dead Milkmen are featuring ChiIL Mama's photos on their web site. Here's our link to their last show in April at The Congress Theater.

We also got some great shots of Naked Raygun earlier this year, when they played The Congress with Dropkick Murphys in February.   Check out our live show photos HERE.

We have some excellent stills of Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band from Summer Camp Music Festival 2011.    ChiIL Mama's BEST OF SUMMER CAMP shots were just featured by Jay TV and our Big Damn Band stills can be seen HERE.

Red Bull Riot Fest began in 2005, when Michael Petryshyn and Sean McKeough launched the first fest in multiple venues over a weekend in Chicago to celebrate rock and punk from every era. They put special emphasis on reuniting influential punk and underground bands who hadn’t shared the stage in years and Chicago’s rich music history has always been a huge part of the Riot Fest roster. It quickly became one of the top gatherings for fans of every genre under the rock, indie and punk umbrella, with fans traveling from around the world to attend.  Red Bull Riot Fest Chicago runs October 5-9th.
