The Chicago-based non-profit Bright Endeavors is celebrating aunts, friends, neighbors and mothers and the light they bring into the world by adding a new scent to its collection - the Sugared Grapefruit candle. The Sugared Grapefruit candle is a fresh scent for spring, with notes of citrus, lemon and strawberry and a delicate floral base. (Orders placed by today, May 7, will arrive in time for Mother’s Day on May 12).

Every purchase of a Bright Endeavors candle helps support new moms like Olivia and her baby. What a perfect way to celebrate #AllTheMothersDay this year! 

Olivia was homeless and staying in a shelter while pregnant with her daughter, Giselle. She was referred to New Moms for housing, and after her daughter was born, she began New Moms’ job training program, Bright Endeavors.

“‘New Moms helped to open doors for me – doors to be a great mom,” said Olivia.

Bright Endeavors is one of the amazing wraparound services provided to the greater Chicago community through New Moms, a nonprofit that provides holistic services to mothers and their children to break out of the cycles of poverty, homelessness, and dependence. 



Bright Endeavors transforms the lives of young moms battling homelessness and poverty by teaching them how to craft premium soy candles in a supportive, professional environment. Through the 16-week paid job training program, Bright Endeavors provides the guidance and job skills young moms need to secure quality employment and begin working toward professional success. Every candle sold provides an opportunity for a young mother to move out of poverty and toward her goals.

HELP OUT: Bright Endeavors Handmade Candles Empower Chicago Young Single Mothers

Check out these fabulous Holiday Edition Candles and more, from Bright Endeavors, a social enterprise in Chicago that empowers young single mothers through its job training program. 

100 percent of the proceeds from the candle sales support the women!

Each of the premium soy wax candles are handmade by young mothers (ages 16-24) in the paid job training program, and 100 percent of the proceeds from the candle sales support the women as they gain important job skills needed to secure quality employment and being to lift her family out of poverty. 



Bright Endeavors is part of New Moms, a Chicago-based nonprofit with 35 years’ experience working with mothers and children to break the cycle of poverty. The nonprofit offers support to young moms in the most important areas of the life of a family: stable housing, allowing youth to build the life skills needed to maintain safe housing; job training, providing hands-on experience, links youth to permanent jobs, and guides towards economic independence; and family support, equipping young moms with skills they need to be great moms. Since Bright Endeavors began in 2007, more than 300 mothers have gone through the program.



The candles are available in four sizes ($7.99 to $24.99), and this year’s holiday collection feature scents full of nostalgia, including: 

·Whitebark Pine – Earthy, cool pine bough blended with a touch of sea salt and evergreen.

·Almond Berry Galette – Blend of roasted nutmeg and almond with notes of wild berry and sweet cream.

·Holiday Citrus – Warm, spicy aromas of cinnamon and clove harmonized with gentle blood orange.

·Winter Lodge – Woody, smoky scent with notes of anise, nutmeg, tangerine, and cinnamon.
