Children 3rd grade + invited to New Singer Day open rehearsal and quick audition, no prior experience needed!  

Chicago Children’s Choir, the nation’s preeminent youth choral organization, leads 11 after-school neighborhood choirs – from Albany Park to Hyde Park. Students in grade 3 and up are invited to audition at the upcoming Neighborhood Choir New Singer Day, taking place at various locations throughout Chicago Monday, January 13 and Tuesday, January 14.  Check-in begins at 4:15pm, with the Choir’s open rehearsal starting at 4:30pm and auditions taking place immediately following from 5-5:30pm. 

 

Auditions for the following neighborhood choirs will take place on Monday, January 13:

                Austin: Austin Branch of the Chicago Public Library, 5615 W. Race Ave.

                Bucktown: Moadon Kol Chadash, 2464 N. Clybourn Ave.

                Englewood: Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 415 W. Englewood Ave.

                Humboldt Park: Casa Central, 1335 N. California Ave.

                Pilsen/Little Village: Arturo Velasquez Institute, 2800 S. Western Ave.

                Rogers Park: Indian Boundary Park, 2500 W. Lunt Ave.

Auditions for the following neighborhood choirs will take place on Tuesday, January 14:

                Albany Park: North Park Covenant Church, 5250 N. Christiana Ave.

                Beverly: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th Street

                Hyde Park: First Unitarian Church, 5650 S. Woodlawn Ave.

                Lincoln Park: Holtschneider Performance Center, 2330 N. Halsted Street

No prior experience is necessary to join the Neighborhood Choir Program, and singers do not need to prepare anything for the audition. Chicago Children’s Choir is looking for students who can match pitch and have an enthusiasm for singing.  Plus, students should be willing and able to commit to twice-weekly rehearsals for the season.  Advance registration for auditions is recommended but not required; to reserve a spot or for more information, please visit: https://ccchoir.org/join/.

The Chicago Children’s Choir currently serves over 5,000 students across Chicago in all 52 zip codes through its vast network of in-school and after-school choir programs. CCC’s after-school Neighborhood Choirs are found in Albany Park, Austin, Beverly, Bucktown, Englewood, Garfield Park, Humboldt Park, Hyde Park, Lincoln Park, Pilsen/Little Village, and Rogers Park. These groups perform at several events in their community throughout the school year. They’ll also have a chance to travel with their Choir.

Chicago Children’s Choir, led by president and artistic director Josephine Lee, is a non-profit organization that inspires and unites youth from diverse backgrounds to become global citizens through music. Founded in Hyde Park in direct response to the Civil Rights Movement in 1956, CCC has grown from one choir into a vast network of in-school and after-school programs driven by one mission: to inspire and change lives through music. CCC has impacted the lives of more than 50,000 diverse youth throughout its 63-year history. CHERIE CHILES-BUCHANAN, KENAN THOMPSON'S ULTIMATE COMEDY EXPERIENCE ROAD TO NYC EXECUTIVE PRODUCER 

Cherie Chiles-Buchanan is the Founder and Executive Producer of Kenan Thompson’s Road to NYC. Cherie partnered with Kenan in 2011 and they’ve provided a platform for many of today’s favorite comedians & actors. Cherie is also the Founder and CEO of simply c 360 and Young Stars 360, a multimedia entertainment organization established in 2010. Cherie and her team has been producing live talent showcases, involving celebrities, in major cities since 2011. They’ve helped discover many young kid and adult stars in the music and tv/film industry.

A&A BALLET HOSTS OPEN AUDITIONS FOR  “THE ART DECO NUTCRACKER” IN CHICAGO SEPTEMBER 8

A&A BALLET (A&A), under the artistic direction of Anna Reznik and Alexei Kremnev, holds open children’s auditions for the second annual production of Alexei Kremnev's “The Art Deco Nutcracker,” Saturday, September 8 from 3-4:30 p.m. A&A welcomes dancers from ages four and up to audition for various roles, which will be performed at Chicago’s Studebaker Theatre at 410 S. Michigan Ave, November 30-December 2, 2018.  

Auditions will be held at the American Rhythm Center in the Fine Arts Building at 410 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, on September 8th.

Audition attire: Girls-black camisole leotard, pink footed tights, pink canvas ballet and pointe shoes (age/level appropriate); Boys-black footed tights, white tight fitted t-shirt, black ballet shoes. The audition will include some basic dance movement and a combination to be performed in character. No preparation of audition material is necessary. Dancers will be notified via email within the week after the audition if they have been cast. A production fee will be required for dancers performing “The Art Deco Nutcracker” and varies depending on role. Rehearsals begin in September and will take place primarily on Saturdays at the American Rhythm Center. A pre-registration form may be downloaded at aacenterfordance.org. 

Set in 1920s America, Kremnev's “The Art Deco Nutcracker,” featuring Tchaikovsky’s beloved score, is a fresh, yet traditional take on the beloved holiday favorite. “The Art Deco Nutcracker” is Kremnev's eighth full-length ballet. His work has been presented at the world-renowned Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Lincoln Center in New York, and the Opernhaus Zurich in Switzerland, among other prestigious venues across the globe. Tickets for Kremnev's “The Art Deco Nutcracker” go on sale at a later date to be announced.

A&A BALLET, based in Chicago’s historic Fine Arts Building on Michigan Ave., is devoted to training in strong, versatile dance technique, as well as the development of personality, independence and artistry. Led by internationally acclaimed artists and former Founding Artistic Directors of the Joffrey Academy and Joffrey Studio Company, Anna Reznik and Alexei Kremnev, A&A offers a wide variety of classes, professional performance opportunities, private instruction, choreography and training for dancers ranging from age 3 to adult. My daughter went through this audition process several years ago and the Goodman staff was so friendly and welcoming, they made it a fun process. Calling all aspiring Tiny Tims! Goodman Theatre announces open call auditions on Saturday, September 8, from 9am – 2pm for six of the young performer roles in A Christmas Carol—now in its 41st year. Chicagoland actors from ages 5 - 17 are invited to audition for the roles of Tiny Tim, Boy Scrooge, Peter Crachit, Emily Cratchit, Belinda Cratchit and Turkey Child. Performers should come prepared to deliver a memorized poem or monologue, one minute or less in length; sing one verse of a song a cappella, preferably a holiday song or Christmas carol; and bring a photo and résumé listing previous theatrical and related experience/training, address and contact information. Hubbard Street Dance Center Announces Auditions for HS First Steps Full Scholarship Program for 6-8 Year Olds

Hubbard Street Artistic Director Glenn Edgerton and Kathryn Humphreys, the company’s Director of Youth, Education, and Community Programs, are proud to announce HS First Steps, a new program that offers full scholarships to Hubbard Street’s Youth Dance Program to incoming first graders at Chicago Public Schools.

HS First Steps provides weekly ballet class to selected students, with opportunity for further study upon successful completion of program. Hubbard Street created the First Steps program to make the company, school, and art of dance, accessible to students and families throughout Chicago. This program works to provide need-based scholarships for young students with talent and drive. Scholarships focus on students from ages 6 to 8 — a pivotal stage in which to begin dance training.

“We are excited to add the HS First Steps scholarships to our roster of education and community programs, including school residencies, free performance tickets, and tuition assistance programs. Hubbard Street is committed to making quality dance education accessible to all students who wish to study, regardless of income, and this program formalizes our commitment to the community” says Kathryn Humphreys, Director of Youth, Education, and Community Programs.

Auditions for HS First Steps will be held from 1–3pm on August 26, 2017 at the Hubbard Street Dance Center located at 1147 West Jackson Blvd in Chicago’s West Loop. The audition will consist of a 30-minute class taught by a Youth Dance Program faculty member. Parents are welcome to attend an “Introduction to Hubbard Street’s Youth Program” information session during their child’s class time. In order to be considered for HS First Steps, students must be eligible for the federal Free and Reduced Lunch program and attend a Chicago Public School. Pre-registration is required. Hubbard Street is also proud to announce its Movement As Partnership (MAP) schools for the 2017-2018 school year. Partner schools include Mario Saucedo Scholastic Academy, Sidney Sawyer Elementary School, The Nettlehorst School, Harold Washington Elementary School, and Nathan S. Davis School. Now in its tenth year, MAP is Hubbard Street’s signature education initiative. This expansive partnership program works with teachers and students in grades 3-5 and offers a 14-week residency supported by field trips to performances with the company and intensive professional development for teachers and administrators to bring dance into the classroom.

Ravenswood Academy also joins Hubbard Street as a new Movement Lab partner. The Movement Lab is a new, free one-year program offered to teams of Chicago Public School teachers. The Movement Lab brings innovative contemporary dance curriculum to school communities and impacts the lives of students, all while reinvigorating classroom teaching practices. This program is designed to be an immersive, experiential professional development experience.

The MAP and Movement Lab Programs are Hubbard Street’s free, in-school dance residency program that transforms classrooms into living laboratories of movement and learning. My daughter, Sage, has auditioned in the past and we highly recommend arriving early. The audition line frequently stretches around the block! That said, Goodman staffers are quite friendly and encouraging to all the kids and do assign designated audition times so you can leave once you're signed in and grab a bite to eat, then return later. Overall, it was a good audition experience, though the competition for 4 roles is fierce!

Performers should come prepared to deliver a memorized poem or monologue, one minute or less in length; sing one verse of a song a cappella, preferably a holiday song; and bring a photo/resume including previous theatrical and related experience/training, address and contact information. For 37 years, Charles Dickens’ holiday classic has delighted Chicago audiences; the production has hosted seven directors, 32 Tiny Tims and eight Scrooges, who’ve snidely delivered nearly 23,000 “Bah Humbugs!” A Christmas Carol is the iconic tale of greedy British businessman Ebenezer Scrooge, whose sizable bank account is only matched by his hatred of the holidays. One Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by four ghosts who take him on an spectacular adventure through his past, present and future, helping him rediscover the joys of life, love and friendship. Goodman Theatre marks its 36th production of A Christmas Carol, “the crown jewel of the holiday season” (Daily Herald), directed by Artistic Associate Henry Wishcamper. Larry Yando, who most recently appeared as Shere Khan in The Jungle Book, returns for his sixth year as Ebenezer Scrooge, a performance hailed as “rich, multilayered, wholly satisfying” (Chicago Reader) and “altogether irresistible” (Chicago Sun-Times).  The Goodman invites performers aged 5 to 17 of every ethnic background to audition for five roles including Tiny Tim and Martha Cratchit on Sunday, September 22 from 10am – 2pm (in-person registration takes place from 9:30 - 11:30am in the Goodman lobby; no phone calls, please). Performers should prepare a memorized poem or monologue (one minute or less in length); sing one verse of a song, preferably a traditional holiday song or Christmas carol, without musical accompaniment; and bring a photo and resume including age, height, weight, previous theatrical and related experience/training (although experience is not required), address and contact information.
