We had a great time at the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series. This was the first any of us had attended—“us” being me, my four-year-old boy and my eight-year-old girl.

The house was packed, with a few sections of seats covered with plastic. We found out later, that was for the flying dirt! I was surprised at how small the arena was and then even more by what these large trucks were able to do in the space.

They started out with some ATV action. Because the competitors weren’t hidden behind the roof and doors of a truck, this was a fun way to get to know the “athletes” as they are called. I put that in quotes not because I deny that they are athletes (my daughter remarked at one point, “How do they not just get totally banged up in there?!”). I’ve just never associated loud, soil-throwing trucks with athleticism before.

It turns out that getting to know the athletes is critical—at least for the athletes—because as an audience we got to score each round. This is definitely a popularity contest because there were clearly drivers with more skill that were not as well liked by the audience and ended up towards the bottom. My own daughter gave the highest possible score to someone who seemed to me to be much less impressive than their competitors. I mean, he was driving a cool zombie truck, so, that is really what counts, right?

Speaking of my daughter, I was impressed that she had fun, despite her status as a princess-loving girly-girl. I liked that two of the drivers were women and feel this detail of the evening expanded her perspective on the possibilities that are open to women.

My four-year-old was just in happy awe most of the time. I mean, cars on the street are fun for him at this age, so monster trucks doing wheelies and donuts is like some kind of small human nirvana.

There was a great deal of showmanship on the part of the athletes as well as in the design of the trucks. We enjoyed it the way one enjoys the WWF—with appreciation and a grain of salt. I’d definitely go again.

Sesame Street Live! Let’s Party!, family entertainment’s sunniest and funniest street celebration, will visit the Chicago area, Oct. 12 - 14, 2018, for eight performances at the Rosemont Theatre. The inaugural production under Feld Entertainment’s new partnership with the non-profit educational organization, Sesame Workshop, features favorite Sesame Street pals Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and more in a brand-new sensory adventure live on stage.

From the moment the curtain rises, parents and children alike will be on their feet dancing along to a pop-infused soundtrack with new Sesame Street friends and live emcees Casey and Caleb. Planning a party isn’t easy when everybody has a different idea of fun, but with some help from the audience, it becomes the ultimate reflection of what friendship plus teamwork can accomplish. 



Party guests will sing along to new and familiar songs, like “I Love Trash” and “C is for Cookie,” with Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster; dance to the beat with Elmo; explore a wintry wonderland when Abby Cadabby’s magic goes awry; take flight with Big Bird to learn about some of his fabulous feathered friends; and discover new cultures in an interactive Spanish lesson with Rosita. 

A unique, up-close-and-personal pre-show experience will be offered at an additional charge prior to select performances, allowing families the opportunity to tour the on-stage neighborhood of their favorite, furry friends before they arrive for the main show. The fun doesn’t end there. A variety of interactive activities give children the chance to create, discover and learn as they help decorate for the upcoming party.

The limited four-day, eight-performance engagement will run Thursday, Sept. 27, through Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.  



The complete adventure of the Academy Award® winning tale will be told live in this production, capturing the dynamic of two royal sisters, Anna and Elsa. Anna, a girl with an extraordinary heart, embarks on an epic journey to find her sister, the magical Elsa, who is determined to remain secluded as she finally feels free to test the limits of her powers. Rugged mountain man Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven, the lovable and hilarious snowman Olaf and the mystical trolls help Anna along the way in this story about love conquering fear. Audiences will get to sing along with such musical favorites as “Let it Go,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Fixer Upper.”

“In our many years of producing Disney On Ice shows, Feld Entertainment has been waiting for a film like this,” says producer Nicole Feld. “While it might seem obvious that Frozen is well suited for the ice, this Disney On Ice production will touch audiences emotionally through innovative show elements and world-class skating.”



Frozen directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee add, “Seeing audiences around the world embrace Frozen has been the experience of a lifetime. And to now have the chance to consult with the talented team at Feld Entertainment and watch their creation come to life on ice, is thrilling.”

In Disney On Ice presents Frozen, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse take the audience through the magical story based in Arendelle, with special appearances by beloved Disney princesses and favorite characters from Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story and Finding Nemo and Disney’s The Lion King, who come together to prove that true love is the greatest power of all. Director Patty Vincent says, “Our goal is to showcase these heartwarming characters in a way that allows the audience to cheer and sing along throughout this emotional journey.”



To create a completely immersive experience for the audience, the set design will encompass the space from the ice surface up through the air, drawing everyone into the story and closer to the characters. Families will feel that they are trekking up to the North Mountains with Anna, Kristoff and Sven, and they will tangibly experience the storm inside Elsa. Elsa’s magic will be enhanced by state-of-the art special effects while her emotions will be conveyed through powerful skating.

Families will be transported to magical moments showcased in the animated features Disney’s Tangled, Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia and Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story, as these beloved stories are fused together with theatrical illusions to create a dynamic, multi-layered experience, complete with high-energy choreography and an original song titled “Magic is Here.” Everything from the pop and funk infused soundtrack to the diverse choreography is essential to the vitality of the show and its differentiation from a traditional re-telling of classic tales.

“This show is about bringing to life the magical places and moments that exists with the world of Disney in a very authentic and modern way,” said Feld Entertainment Executive Vice President and Disney Live! Producer Alana Feld. “By using magic and illusions, we’ve reimagined iconic scenes and enhanced them, creating a great connection to the characters and stories for our audiences.”

Audiences will see the Fairy Godmother transform Cinderella’s rags into a beautiful ball gown in a split second; the Toy Story gang defy the dimensions of Andy’s toy box with the help of the green army men; and the spectacular stage debut of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider as they rise into the sky amidst the floating lanterns. With special appearances by Snow White, Tinker Bell and Aladdin’s Genie, fans never know what to expect or who might join in the fun.

Rosemont Theatre performances of Disney Live! presents Mickey and Minnie’s Doorway to Magic are scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 20, and 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, and Sunday, Oct. 22.
